Great Moroccan food and staff were friendly. We had the Fish and Seafood Tajine and they were mouth watering. The sardine for entree is a good choice. We will go back again and again to La Kasbah...
Ambience and service a little average but the food is very interesting...I like sardines the way the morrocans make them and thats what I usually have...a little different experience overall.
We dined at Kazbah Restaurant last night as our regular monthly night out with the girls. Two of us arrived earlier than our booking time and decided to order some nibbles or bread whilst waiting for our other friend to arrive. The waitress suggested a dip plate which consisted of Hummus, Babaganouj, Taramasalata, and breads which was delicious and tasty. It was only after we received our nibbles did we notice the “two courses for $40.”
In the process of ordering we asked for the mezze plate, which is the entrée (for $40.00 deal) and could we possibly substitute the dips for something else as seeing we had already had the dips. The answer was a sharp NO! Not once did the waitress at the beginning explain about any “deals” or to mention the dips were apart of the Mezze Plate. The Mezze Plate was delightful but we left the dips…..
Our main menu we ordered three meals to share. One meal being the seafood Tajine and the other the Casablanca Royale Slow Roasted lamb shoulder, with braised vegetables, sultana jam and condiments. ( $72.00 for two.). Our seafood Tajine was delicious but the Casablanca Royale was awful, the lamb was tough and leathery, basically it had been grilled and was tasteless, a chewy strip of gristly hard lamb. We did complain, but the waitress told us “it’s the way the chef cooks it” ….
We left no tip, as the service to us was disappointing and the meal below average, especially paying $72.00 for a shared dish for two which was very ordinary. We will not be returning.
Small, traditional restaurant. Great food, from memory the banquet with entree, 4 dishes and dessert is around $30-$40 per person. Been 3-4 times and can't complain about a thing. The food doesn't blow your mind, however, it doesn't disappoint.
We went to try our first experience of Moroccan spiced food, boy were we disappointed, it was really bland. We ordered the Lemon chicken Tangine, all it was boiled chicken in a broth with absolutely no flavour what so ever, we managed to find two small slivers of pickled lemon and only 1 olive. The Kefta Tangine was not too bad but we expected a little more on the spice side. We had the mixed entree for two which was quite good although a little on the small side.
After dinner we asked for Moroccan coffee for two only to be told that they were out of coffee so we opted for the tea which was good. Dessert was great though as well as the service, we might give it a miss next time and try our luck elsewhere. A little on the expensive side for the portion sizes.
Bought myself a tajine for Christmas so I wanted to check my cooking was getting close to the real deal. Visited here about a year ago so while I had a vague memory, it needed revisiting. Started with lamb skewers with salad @ $8.50 which were nice. My lady had the Steak Marakesh @ $18.50 and I had the Beef tajine @ $16.50. The steak was served with beans and carrots, done in a rich sauce which was a bit hot for her taste while the (fillet ?) steak was a bit grizzly.
My tajine was a bit of a disappointment, straight out of the oven and way too hot for eating, there would have been lucky to be 100 grams (5 bite size pieces) of beef. Good for a sparrow but bad for a carnivore. The sauce of preserved lemon and herbs as nice but subtle. This was a nice but not spectacular experience.
I went during the week and the place was empty. Excellent service. I have never tried Moroccan food before but it was a bit too bland for my liking but not bad overall.
