Had brunch here recently, food OK except for what was described as a potato pancake or rosti, not sure. What I received was mashed potato made into a rissole shape and fried in a pan apparently. Coffee was OK, service average, rather pricey. Probably better options elsewhere.
The food is presented beautifully and is very fresh. The servings are a little on the small side, you need to order at least 2 servings of sides (per couple) at an extra $8-$10 each for a satisfying meal. The smaller servings put this restaurant in the overpriced category, even for the Balmain area. The pork and beef were cooked perfectly, the salmon was a little overcooked. Their selection of foreign wines is reasonably priced at $7-10 per glass. The total bill for 4 $320 included, 4 Pernods, 2 entrees, 4 mains, 2 desserts, 4 French coffees and 4 glasses of wine.
Been for brekkie and recently dinner. What a great place! Unique, stylish, scrumptous food, great bistro atmosphere and lively service. No hit and miss here, all the dishes are great. Highlights are everything, from brekkie to mains to desserts. If there was a downside, it is busy, for good reason. I loved the croque monsier. The other day, the pork belly was divine, the steak tartare was superb, the veal dish was amazing, creme brulee rich but fresh and dark choc tart an amazing experience.
We went at La Grande Bouffe to have a breakfast on Sunday and frankly I won't go there anymore. The food is expensive and very small amount. 5$ for a glass of fresh orange juice with full of ice, so at the end not too much orange juice, the granola is basic and small and the big breakfast is not big at all as we were looking for the bacon lost in the air, very small piece ( maybe it's too expensive).
The staff is cold and particularly a tall guy apparently the senior staff took our order and look at us without any emotion and smile, the restaurant was full and a bit messy service. Bad experience, won't recommend it. There is heaps of restaurant in Rozelle, Balmain much worth it.
This is a great weekend brunch/lunch place. The food is always first-rate and staff are always polite and attentive. Their all-day breakfast of ham hock and lentils is a favourite.
We have had breakfast, lunch and dinner at La Grande Bouffe. All excellent with the Dinner Special being a great deal. The only negative is a female staff member who often works breakfast on the weekend. She is brash and not at all in keeping with the wonderful service from the waiters. Otherwise a great spot!
Just sublime. Have driven past many times and noticed that always packed on weekends fro brunch. Last night indulged and it was a feast. The souffle was fabulous, portion size just right and the texture and taste wonderful. Foe main I had the salmon which was lovely, one of my dining companions had the pork and it will definitely be my next choice.
Dessert, you could work your way through the menu! Just a really fabulous dining experience. The waiters with their delightfully charming French accents just added to the experience!
Came up to Rozelle to re visit an old fav. Cafe Mike that I used to frequent before moving out of Sydney. Found that La Grande Bouffe had replaced it a few years ago so decided it was worth a try anyway. Let's say I liked this place a whole lot more when it was Cafe Mike about 5 years back. Everything about this place is rather average.
I ate here for brunch recently. Service was slow and forgetful. Staff required repeated prompting to bring ordered drinks. A friend and I had the granola, which was really nice, though left us both peckish, as the portions were pretty small. Another friend's french toast looked great, and he was pretty pleased with it! Bill wasn't brought 20 minutes after asking for it, leaving us to chase wait staff.
Nice food, small serves, poor service. There are other cafes and restaurants nearby doing the same thing, better.
