Attempted to go for lunch on a quiet Monday. Decided to go to La Giara, group of 3 because we had an ET Book voucher. There was a waitress smoking at the front doors whilst having coffee in the midst of all the tables, and another waitress walking around compulsively scratching her backside.

Prior to sitting down, we attempted to advise that the seats were wet, to no avail. After being ignored, we decided to move chairs around from other tables, to get 3 that were reasonably dry. We got our bottle of wine from the thermal bag, and immediately 3 glasses were dumped in front of us. Before I had a chance to say only 2 would be drinking, and to order a soft drink, she had another flick and scratch -off to talk in Italian about us to the smoker.

Unfortunately for her surprise, we speak Italian and understood the comment about 'the bitches' etc. So, when she came back to serve the only other table in the whole place next to us, we decided to start loudly conversing in the tongue she had just insulted us in. Hence, our gobsmacked waitress trundled off to whisper quietly to her mate that they might have been overheard.

Needless to say, we could not even contemplate eating here, given the attitude and service, so we packed up our wine and went elsewhere. Nasty, Avoid like the plague!

A Saturday night out with friends, we thought La Giara. Been there a couple of times before in the last couple of years and it was always good. Something must have changed.

We sat, ordered drinks and a bottle of water for the table. The drinks arrived fairly quickly, the bottle of water didn't. After asking the waiter (who couldn't be understood) three times for the water, the answer was "There's a drought". True... especially in his sense of humour.

The entree was reasonable though the bruschetta was drenched in olive oil. Even Jamie Oliver would have said "that's a bit much". The mains took quite some time but were quite decent (mental note: don't have a pizza, similar to dominoes!).
The waiting staff (all 3 of them) came to ask what we wanted for dessert, when it was specified in the original order. As we ran out of water, we asked for another bottle and asked, and asked and asked again. After 6 attempts to get water I decided to get it from the bar myself.

A second chinotto was put on the table unopened after it was ordered... Table around us were not cleaned. Half filled plates from the main course from a couple at a nearby table that finished at 7:30 were still there when we left at about 9:45.
Entertainment book or not. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. The 25% off isn't worth it.

The salmon carpaccio tasted like frozen smoked salmon to me. The prawn risotto in red sauce was acceptable but nothing special. Same for the baked ricotta cheesecake. The portion sizes were generous and the service on a Friday evening was good although there were very few people dining. The $26 3 course meal deal is good value particularly if you can get 25% off with your Entertainment voucher. Good place for a cheap meal with friends but give it a miss if you're looking for a fine dining experience.

I just had the most terrible dining experience there and I need to get the word out. It started with the waitress telling us that the mains will be about 20-25 mins delayed and this was before we were even seated at a table.

Then my table decided to order the 3 course meal deal for $29 and indeed it was a mistake. My starter was a beautiful smoked salmon carpaccio served on a bed of rocket leaves, which was the ONLY standout of the night. My main meal of risotto with king prawns in a cream sauce was literally white long grain rice (cooked separately) mixed with the cream sauce and the prawns. I have eaten a lot of risottos in my dine out session but this was the Worst by far!!!!

My partner's main meal was chicken parmigiana served with chips and the chicken was hardly decent in the portion size, it was 2 thin strips and dried Not moist! It looked like it was grilled beyond perfection only to have the cheese to compensate for the taste.

Dessert wasn't even better, my partner and I have opted for the homemade tiramisu and a scoop of ice cream and it was nothing special. Nothing that will hold bums on seats I'm sure!

And don't get me started on the service.... everything was rushed. At one time, I found one of the servers having a smoke right outside (in full view of the customers) when the place was still packed. The place seems to be very understaffed with only 3 seen waitresses on the floor servicing the restaurant.

Pity... with a bit of love and quality food, this place can really do well. I hope 'The Chopping Block' of Channel 9 gets them and tell them to clean up their act.

I have had lunch at this cafe many times and occasionally for an evening meal and have always found the food to be excellent and very good value for money. The service can occasionally be slow when they are busy or if they are understaffed which happens even to the best of establishments. I have always found the food worth the wait and at the price very hard to beat.

Visited for dinner on Saturday night. Service was pretty appalling, despite it being reasonably crowded they seemed to only have two wait staff working. We came in with a BYO bottle of wine and although we were given menus straight away, it was about 10 minutes before they gave us any wine glasses. The food, when it finally arrived after around 30 minutes was average, nothing to write home about. My tortellini was over cooked and bland. At least it was cheap for what it was but I won't be rushing back.

We had lunch here midweek, so it wasn't too busy. We had the 3 course option for $20 which was extremely filling and tasty. Great value for money - especially when we used the entertainment card on top of that. We will return again, as the staff were very friendly and courteous in addition to the good food.

We were able to use our entertainment card for 6 people. The food was great, abundant and fast in coming. The service was friendly and the staff was good looking too!
