When my wife and I and brother-in-law dined here, we were treated with astonishingly bad service. Yes, the pizza is good but a restaurant should be about a total experience, something you do not get here.
When we first sat down we were told that the wait would be about an hour for a pizza which was ok, sort of. So we asked for a couple of garlic breads to snack on while we waited. 10 mins later out come two garlic pizza's - the size of ordinary pizza's.
We explained again that the garlic bread was only ordered because we were told the pizza would be a 1 hour wait, and asked why we weren't told that the 'garlic' bread was actually a garlic pizza. Indicating that we wouldn't be able to eat two garlic pizza's as well as a main meal, they picked up one of the pizza and asked the table next to us, who were clearly friends of theirs, if they wanted a garlic pizza.
An hour later an incorrect pizza was delivered to our table. When this was pointed out, no apologies were forthcoming, only a feeling that we were the problem here.
We couldn't get out of there quick enough, and will never go back. A restaurant that does not treat its customers with respect does not deserve their patronage.
This is definitely the best + most authentic pizza I've been able to find after years of looking for the "perfect pizza" in Sydney, really light delicious base and not too much cheese, exactly like the pizza I've had on holiday in Rome. The one with prosciutto was especially amazing. The service was efficient and the food came pretty quick. My family really enjoyed it and we're looking forward to eating there again!
Got a takeaway. The base was burnt (black) beyond recognition. I hope they were having an off night because when I went here, the pizza was as forgettable, or worse, than a host of other bad pizza places in the area. Tried to give them a second chance but when I rang for a takeaway order I was informed that they weren't doing takeaway because they had no boxes.
I have to concur: The pizzas are pretty damn good, Neapolitan-style thin, bases topped with restrained combinations of ingredients are the go here, and if you've been to Italy you'll appreciate the authenticity behind La Disfida's work.
Scared off by the horror stories about service and the scrumming for tables, I opted for just a takeaway pizza ordered a few minutes after they'd opened on a Friday night. I had no problems with the personalities or efficiency at all. Needless to say though, people were gushing in like water during the time I was waiting and the restaurant was half-filled by the time I left (twenty minutes after they opened). I guess they just crack under pressure?
"Best pizza in Sydney"? Well, there's a handful of other contenders to try yet so I'll hang onto my vote for now. What I can say, though, is I already know I'll be back to this little place for more pretty soon. Good stuff.
We have tried for years to find pizza in Sydney that resembles what we ate in Italy. Thank heaven for La Disfida which is truly authentic. I reckon if Gordon Ramsay went here he would say it does everything a restaurant is supposed to - use fresh ingredients simply and the chefs stick to what they know keeping to a small menu.
The wonderful thing is you can taste how good and fresh each ingredient is even down to the most delicious bruscetta I've ever tasted (and I don't even like tomotoes). For you whingers - this is how Italian pizza bases were supposed to be before Americans got hold of them!
Finally the service is fine, family style just like it would be a little back street Italian trattoria. We love it and so does my 4 year old who says - can we have pizza at the best pizza shop in Sydney?!
I wonder what the staff at La Disfida's problem is?! I also wonder if they're reading this website! Obviously not, or else they'd be changing their disgusting attitudes! Pizza was great but the service, like everyone elses, was shocking. It makes me angry that people so rude can benefit so well from us. Their business is obviously booming and their manners and attitudes toward their customers are putrid! If anybody finds pizza this good with nice staff, please let us all know.
I was shocked to see the rating of one of Sydney's best restaurants to be only 5.6!?!?!
Yes the service is bad, really bad, really really bad! but the FOOD, is AWESOME! The super fine, super chewy super pizza base topped with premium ingredients are to die for. The subtleness and depth of flavour makes these pizzas, the best in Sydney. I'm drooling just thining abt the la diviola.
For the pastas I recommend the spag with rocket and proscuitto. The wife always orders the spag with mussels. For the best experience, go mid week with a group of about 8 people and eat the whole menu! you won't be disappointed.
NB: This place is NOT very wheelchair of stroller accessable
We joined friends who are regulars at this restaurant for a birthday dinner. Our friends were made to wait, standing in the doorway until we arrived before being seated though our table was empty and awaiting us. From there things went downhill.
Service was rude and arrogant, food very so-so (pizza with a scraping of tinned tomato, 4 mussels and 2 segments of octopus for example) and very overpriced.
The place was without ambience and the rudeness of the staff so extreme we would simply have walked out had we not been with friends who, inexplicably seem to like the place. Never again.
And in response to the reviewer who suggested it was ignorance of Italy that made us less than impresses - we have just spent a month there and never had such bad service nor such mediocre food anywhere in the whole country as we did at La Disfida.
Not an authentic Italian pizza at all. Upon our recent (and last) visit we were treated to the usual arrogance and total lack of respect these people have for their customers. The staff become aggressive and try to be intimidating when you enquire after the whereabouts of your meal (after waiting quietly for a hour) and when the pizza arrives you are treated to a base which could only be described as having the same texture as a piece of Lebanese bread, a slight smearing of tomato paste and 2 olives. This place is truly a joke.
