Don't know what all the fuss is about. Used to come to this restaurant back in the 80's - haven't been to this restaurant for quite some years, but came back for the first time the other night and the food is as good now as it was then. Actually we are going again tonight. Well done Memmo!!!!
Fantastic specials, great service, good quality Chianti. Prawns are the freshest - fresher than the fish market and much better prepared. Very friendly staff.
The food here is below par. Ate here with a group of my friends and we were all disappointed. The quality of their ingredients is very poor especially the Pasta, which tastes very bland and tasteless. Will not be going back any time soon. Service is OK.
Ate here for the first time today and loved it. All four members of our party loved their meals. I had the scallopine bacon which was fantastic, well cooked in a great sauce. We also got 1/2 a litre of the house white wine which was fantastic value and really quite nice. So much so that we didn't feel the need to splurge on a more expensive bottle. Will definitely be coming back.
The food was not well cooked. I ordered scallopine al marsala, the veal was tough, and the potatoes were undercooked. I ordered mascapone for dessert, which may or may not have been pleasant, I was unable to eat it as it came covered in chocolate to which I am allergic, yet of which there was no mention on the menu.
Staff were friendly but not terribly attentive. The menus sat on the table long after my order had been taken and I was pushed for a coffee and dessert order as my main was being cleared. Not having touched my dessert I was greeted by the register with the comment 'Oh, you didn't eat your mascapone!' No apology was forthcoming upon my explanation, but neither was the charge.
All in all a thoroughly disappointing experience. La Botte d'oro is not the place to eat if your on Marion St.
Have been coming here for years and will do for many more. Have introduced many friends & they have love it also. It's great value for money with all the atmosphere of a real Italian restaraunt. Highly recommend the seafood platter for $28. They also do great pizza's now!
The food isn't great. It's a shame, the venue has a lot going for it. The waiter tried hard, but he was let down by the kitchen, all in all a disappointment.
Ok, so maybe I'm a little biased. My wife and I went there for our first date about 20 years ago. Sometimes we stray, but we keep coming back (to the restaurant that is).
The food quality can be a little variable depending upon who is in the kitchen that night. Most of the staff speak Italian and many have been with them for years so it has a nice familiar feel to it.
Parking can be a bit of a chore at peak times, but a short walk will help with the extras you will no doubt eat.
Try the mussels in tomato & garlic. (Order some fresh bread in advance because it would be a crime to send any of the sauce back to the kitchen) And keep some space for dessert. Basic, Italian fare but great with coffee and something from the bar.
I too am a little bewildered by the glowing reviews. How an Italian restaurant in Leichhardt that has been operating for 30 years get ravioli bolognaise so wrong is beyond me. And to substitute kraft singles for mozzarella on the parmagiana?
