Overview of La Sangria

Located in the 'village suburb' of Balmain on Sydney's North Shore, La Sangria offers diners a relaxed dining experience with stunning Spainish cuisine.

One of only a handful of truly authentic Spanish restaurants in Sydney, La Sangria's cuisine originates from the country of Spain and is milder and very different from South American 'Spanish' cuisine (hotter and spicier). Come and enjoy the journey and bring your children too - they'll love our food just as much as you will.

La Sangria Spanish Tapas Restaurants welcomes all diners and looks forward to exceeding your expectations on your next visit to our humble abode.

Bookings are recommended for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights - we have been known to have to turn away more than 50 people a night sometimes, so to avoid disappointment book in advance! Bookings can be made by phone.

We also welcome phone enquiries for functions and parties and will endeavor to reply within the day.

Happy Dining!

I had read so many different reviews about this restaurant, both great and not so good so I just had to try it for myself and it was great! you could tell it has been recently renovated and I loved the look and feel of the place, the waitress who served us was the owner and was a very lovely lady. We enjoyed a fresh seafood paella, and for dessert we had Churros that was mouth watering! was a lovely dinner and reasonably priced. We will be back!

What a cute little joint! Heard there was a new cook in town so I thought I'd better revisit La Sangria, and it is still wonderful joyous food. The prawns were to die for. I thoroughly enjoyed it, maybe because it's the peasant in me.

I've been here a couple of times over the last few years for special occasions and it has always been very good. Last time was in December when it was very busy. Service was quite fast and steady.

Then we ordered about 6 dishes including octopus, rabbit, chorizo, croquettes, meatballs and fish. All of them were great and clearly freshly made. Even the octopus was well cooked and not rubbery. Flavours are strong, especially the rabbit.

Churros were really nice and the chocolate sauce was thick, just like I had them when I was in Spain. Not the cheapest but very good food.

Had dinner last Wednesday with a group of friends the place was quite busy, we ordered sangria and spanish beer, the sangria really good like the ones you get in Spain, ordered almost every single tapa frim the menu, chicken croquetes were fantastic good size and all chicken no potato like many other places, potatoes bravas with spicy mayo as they do in Barcelona, small chorizos fried and with red wine sauce really good, everything we ordered was very tasty and really traditional spanish we been in spain many times, and the food take us there everytime we go to La Sangria.

Do not forget to order churros with the rich spanish hot chocolate.

Ordinary, stodgy, sure the sauces didn't come out madgee packet? Garlic overkill. Was it churros or a tube of rubber? Won't be going back.

This is the most delicious tapas that I ever had in Sydney. I went there with my boyfriend on monday night. The places was a bit quiet, waitress really friendly plus food was so awesome. My 1st order was Sangria (my favorite drink). It's beautiful!

I ordered Mix set Tapas includes Garlic prawn, potatoes Bravas, Fries Chorizo, Fries fish fillet etc...So Authentic!

Then I realized food is exactly like a Tapas which I had before in Bacelona. La Sangria! Many thanks for reminding me about memories of Spain. Last my recommendation is Catalanas for dessert which amazed me as well.

Went there last month, review is a little delayed. I had a nice dinner on Friday evening as the service was good. The waiters were attentive and the lady boss I assume was trying to be friendly. Not a bad place to have a simple dinner. We had the set menu where you can pick a number of dishes from the menu for a set price which was nice.

Food was good, we had the sardines and it was a good sardine tapas dish I had compare to the Spanish place at glebe. Apart from that, food is just average, nothing authentic or to shout about.

Walked in on Thursday night without booking, other than one other table, the place was empty. Ordered chicken croquettes, flamenco, potato tortilla, scallops, fried fish, fried chorizos, and churros. Croquettes arrived as 4 brown eggs the size of my thumb on the plate. For those who don't have small hands, let's say the size of your 1st thumb-joint. They were slightly bigger than quail eggs. I have had more generously sized croquettes (and not quite so fried) in other places.

The flamenco was pork-wrapped cheese, it was fried the same brown as the croquettes. The 6 scallops were adequate, I avoided the fish which were visually unappealing, the chorizos were good, 6 thumb-sized sausages and the 3 squares/3 edge cuts of potato tortilla cold and average. Churros were a bit heavy/doughy, chocolate dipping sauce Ok. All meals came garnished with what looked like shreds of the same lettuce leaf and spotted with balsamic.

Perhaps, reduce the size of plates if servings will be small (even accounting for the nature of tapas)? The only generous part of the night was the sangria, which arrived in a glass tumbler. All up, spending $90 for 2 adults to still be hungry is not good. I have had better tapas elsewhere.

This has to be about one of the worst places we have eaten at, my partner and I had to walk out half way through the dinner as we couldn't stomach another mouthful. On arriving we ordered a salad for our entree with Patata Brave, the salad tasted like it was saturated with worcestershire sauce so over powering, the Patata Brave tasted like the Garlic was not fresh, Then our Paella, bout the most awful tasting that I've ever stomached, we love spanish food but this paella tasted like that awful sauce again, and was half burnt on one side and half cooked on the other, we asked the waitress who was possibly the owner for our bill. Would you not ask your customers questions if they left with a full pan of Paella behind. Would not recommend this place to anyone a complete money waster.

    Xx

We went here on a friday night not sure what to expect after reading mixed reviews. The food was great, though we only stuck to the tapas menu. The place was continually packed out and the service not too bad considering the number of patrons.

The principle waitress assumed to be the owner made us feel at home and was very helpful and friendly with our menu selections. An enjoyable evening was had by all and we will definitely be back!
