Yes new owners but the pizza is not as good. Its still good pizza, the best around. The bases are now a little too thick and some of the toppings are different quality. Service is much better, but I kind of liked the rude head waitress. She was mad, bad and if I knew her she would have been dangerous to know. Get her on a bad night and she was terrible, get her on a good night and she was not much better. We never went there for the service anyway. I am sure the current 5.5 rating will lift over the coming months.
I have dined at La Disfida a few times and have always enjoyed the food but found the service and staff to be below average. I heard the restaurant was under new management so gave it another go and was very pleasantly surprised. The menu is better, the pizzas taste nicer, the staff are friendly and now have a good wine list. If you're sceptical like I was, give it a go, you'll be very pleasantly surprised.
I have to agree with "lovingherfood"! I am a local and a regular to Napoli in Bocca, finding it closed last night we thought, with new owners we would give La Disfida a second chance. It is going to be nice to be able to start coming back here again! Pizzas were delicious and it will be a hard decision to make between coming here and Napoli now! Service was a bit all over the place, 3 waiters asking us if we had placed our order but I'm sure this will be polished up with time.
I had seen recently in Good Living that La Disfida was under new management so thought would go and give it a go having eaten there before a while back. Wow! What a transformation. We all had a fantastic evening. The restaurant has undergone a bit of a makeover looking a lot brighter and airier; the menu far more extensive - the pizza still authentic and delicious; but we were truly impressed with the appetizers including the eggplant, cod, carpaccio. Desert of fresh figs with zabaglione was to die for. And finally the service - I can see it was not a strong point of the previous owners based on the reviews below but despite being a really busy evening, the service was prompt, polite and welcoming. All the wait staff came across knowledgeable with the menu and relaxed in the environment they were part of. Definitely going back again.
All I need to say about the place is that the food is absolutely disgusting and the service is abhorrent. Don't waste your time at this place, there are many other great restaurants near by.
Not the best pizza in Sydney, although it is good simple Italian-style pizza. Good pizza base, well cooked, great tomato taste. However, it was just too scantily topped. Yes, I know traditional Italian pizza is simple, but this was just, well, ungenerous. And at $22 a pop, it's just overpriced.
Ha well I wish I had have read these reviews first, which seems to be the running theme here. I took my partner and another couple here last night as we are all very impressed with Haberfield's two Pizzeria's The Post and Napoli in Bocca- which very well near perfection and I'd heard that this place allegedly completes the triangle that is acclaimed to be Sydney's best Pizza. Based on the other two places, we had high expectations. How wrong we were.
The evening started well, we were seated straight away (they don't take reservations) and we were brought wine glasses for our byo wine and ordered within 10 minutes of arriving. However, after more than 45 minutes later when the table next to us (who arrived well after us) began to get their food I tried to enquire how much longer ours might be only to be snapped at before I even asked the question "I'm finding out now!" by the woman I assume is the maitre d'.
She came back to tell us the chef was putting our pizza's in the oven now. After 45 minutes he was only putting them in the oven now? Anyway she was right and the 3 pizzas and pasta dish came out not long after only for my partners seafood pizza to have a great big long hair woven through the pizza's entirety!
When he stopped the waitress to inform her she replied "you found a hair?" before just walking off to tell someone no apology, no explanation just sheer rudeness. When she returned she asked if wanted them to go and make another one like it would be the biggest put out to them. This waitress was the rudest, snippiest piece of work I've ever come across eating out, she even parroted my partner when he asked if it would take another 45 minutes she remarked " No it won't take another 45 minutes" in a teasing mimicking voice.
We were all shocked and decided not re order the pizza and just share what we had on the table, which to be honest was very good food. It seems they believe they can get away with good food and terribly below standard service. Finally, before leaving I thought I might let her know how disappointed we were with the nights experience, I was totally understanding that things like this can happen to any restaurant and (coming from a hospitality background myself and knowing how important customer satisfaction is) was really after just a good old heart apology and maybe a discount on our ridiculously high corkage of $4.50 per person.
Instead the maitre d' snidely said "what? do you want it all for free? We already took the pizza off and offered to make another? He's the one who didn't want another" I couldn't believe the childish yet completely arrogant attitude from her. She should be ashamed of herself, treating customers like an inconvenience when it's the customer who keeps food on her own table!
We ended up paying in full without any reduction for the hassle and needless to say we will never return there and vehemently tell everyone we know not to either.
Our night was only salvaged when we stopped by a place for some dessert on the way home to be welcomed in with open arms in that familiar warm Italian way, despite the fact they were starting the evenings clean up they were more than happy for our business. That's good service.
If only the service here was as good as the Pizza. The Pizza is authentic Italian similar to any we had in Italy. Yes they are different to the Auzzie Pizza. These have thin bases and scant topping and not inches deep in topping but they are very very tasty and we enjoy them. I can't understand why the attitude and service here is one of complete indifference. Very much like it or lump it. If it wasn't for the tasty Pizza we wouldn't go back.
Just had the worst ever dining experience of my life, shame I didn't read the reviews here first, seems I'm not alone! Pizza was okay, could have passed over the pricey iceberg lettuce salad.
The most arrogant, rude and hostile waitress staff I have ever come across. Was out with my mum for the evening and come time to pay the bill got up to pay at the counter (as no one came to serve our table from the time we ordered pizza). While mum ducked out to get her wallet from the car and I got up to pay for us both, left our bag and jackets at the table because I couldn't hold everything and pay the bill.
No sooner have I got to the counter, the waitress grabbed our belongings. I went back to the table change in hand. While grappling to put the change in my wallet I have the belongings thrown at me. I put the bag down and say hang on just one minute while I put my change away. I get chastised for putting the bag on the chair. The chair with the bag is then pushed into my shins and I'm told to hurry up and leave. As the chair is pushed towards me I'm told "take the chair then". I kid you not. I was speechless. I just paid over $50 for pizza and coffee with complimentary verbal and physical abuse.
I rang up on the way home to find out the name of the rude staff member (who happened to answer the phone). She said to me "you know you were there too long, you can't just sit there and eat pizza for 3 hours"? Puzzled by the fact it is a pizzeria and that I wasn't told we had a time limit, I said as much to her. (and we arrived at 6.30 and left before 8.30). I told her I wouldn't be going there again and I would advise everybody I know against going. She said she didn't care and hung up on me.
Unpleasant all round, just glad I didn't leave a tip, that would really have stung.
What a shame. The food/pizza is really exceptional, but the service ruins it for me. Have been twice but can't see myself going back as they have a really bad attitude to customer service. If you don't mind bad service you will enjoy the pizza.
