Went here with my partner having walked the chinatown strip, I liked that they had the girl out the front with the menu but she wasn't pushy at all. We had a banquet for 2 that consisted of the kind of standard 'western' chinese type dishes like satay skewers, wonton soup, fried rice, garlic prawns and a couple of other dishes and dessert. One dish was possibly the tastiest salt & pepper squid I've ever had.
For $34 each it was extremely good value, drinks were also fairly reasonably priced. Each dish was very tasty and their timing in bringing out the dishes was impeccable, enough time between courses to let the previous settle a bit, but not too long either. Each dish was brought out piping hot. Service excellent, quick to refill our wine glasses and take away empty plates.
Will definitely return again, next time perhaps try some of the more authentic dishes (but definately also more of the salt & pepper squid!).

Excellent flounder. Beef in black bean well above average. Friendly staff helped carry pram up and down stairs. Speedy service. Very clean toilet. Would go again.

Very good dining restaurant with excellent service. The area is clean and tidy, which make you feel warm. Talking about the food, I strongly recommend their xo crabs and any other kind of seafood. Really a good place for small group or function.

With little to separate the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, I still find myself coming back to Kun Ming. Is it the comfortable environment which is not too formal, yet not the Laminex table treatment of some of the newer low-brow dining spots in the city? Perhaps, or perhaps, it is the great Chinese food at great prices. Having been there easily more than 10 times and running the gauntlet of their extensive menu, there is little to disappoint.
The Peking duck is good and the Hot and Sour soup is fantastic. Calamari is cooked to perfection with a nice touch of salt and chilli that compliments but does not over power and favourites such as Cantonese steak are tasty and tender. Banquets start at the low $30's and are great value. Would strongly recommend this restaurant over most of the Chinatown strip.

The best Chinese I have ever had! We had a banquet for $32 each including Chinese Tea, dessert and 8 other dishes. The food was excellent, as was the service. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Melbourne.

This is one of our favourite restaurants, we've yet to have a bad dish here. Try the patagonian tooth fish which is shallow fried, or the Kun Ming special baked chicken. The prawns fried with egg yolk are to die for. The food is not cheap but not overly expensive either.
