Being a Malaysian myself, I was looking forward to a nice mouth watering fragrant chicken rice. We came for lunch on a Sunday and it was very quiet. I don't think many people can stumble on this restaurant because it is a bit out of place from the main street.
I had the Hainan Chicken rice and was very disappointed. It was bland and had no frangrant to the rice. It came with boiled cabbage and carrot served on the side of the plate. Who serves this anyway. There was no soup that came with it either. The real Hainan chicken comes with cucumber and bean sprouts. The char koay teow was ok. I find that this place is a bit on the pricey side.
I'll start on a bad note. Well, there really isn't anything "bad" about this place. I just find it uncomfortably quiet that you can hear the slightest touch of cutlery from other diners sitting at the opposite end of the room with you. It doesn't represent a very authentic Malaysian dining experience, as it isn't like how it is in Kuala Lumpur (as in, in Malaysia), even the proper restaurants, where you can haughtily laugh at a pretty respectable volume.
Ok so that's done. The food is really delicious albeit slightly expensive. But the satay and gado gado (both dishes using the same sauce) are definitely worth your buck and being a very peanut infused satay sauce lover myself, I usually ask for more and they give it to me (on the house). But before you do that, get to know the boss first.*
Anything that reads "curry" on the menu is also worth a lip-smacking try and the lunch offers like the Char Kuey Teow will tempt the diet conscious.. c'mon, just this once and forget the calories! So the food is very Malaysian but not the dining ambience. But if you go there with company and turn up the volume a little, so will the restaurant!
The satay and curry dishes were yummy and authentically M'sian flavour. We think even satay from M'sia can't beat it. The chicken skewers were juicy, tender and the peanut sauce we were advised are made fresh on the premises and they taste like it too! The banquet for 4 include meat, fish, prawns, vegetables and rice for only $50! Where can you find such great value? Overall, it was the most pleasant and satisfying experience.
Dinner for 6. Had satay, spring roll and chicken wings for entree, all were delicious. Ordered chicken curry, lamb curry, beef rendang, kum heong king prawns, vegetables and fish for mains - they were superb. Had a very satisfying meal and was good value.
Satay and curry is their signature dish, it was authentic, it's sensational and you would crave for more. Nice ambience with soft and soothing background music. Young waitresses trying their best to please. Will be back next week.
We went there for a sunday lunch and ordered a hainan chicken rice and chicken laksa. The hainan chicken rice was very well presented but was tasteless. The chicken was hard and bland, and there was no fragrance to the rice. The same thing applied to the laksa. The soup was very salty and the chicken pieces were tough and tasteless. Overall very disappointed with the food. The best part was the teh tarik!
Being malaysian chinese, I had high expectations. It was also a little disappointing, Popiah is NOT spring rolls, it something different from that, and if you go to Malaysia and order Popiah you won't be getting spring rolls. The satay chicken sticks was nice, with plenty of satay sauce.
The char keow teoy was a little too spicy for me, which overpowered the taste of the meal. But to my surprise, I got 5 prawns with it which makes it good value.
Overall i was disappointed.
Went here for sunday lunch 11.30am opening time, ordered roti chani, lamb curry, nasi gooreng, teh tarik and some other dishes. The place was very well presented, clean, neat and tidy, the service was good. The lamb curry was recommended to us which was my favourite.
We will definitely be going back to try some of their other dishes, the price was ok too. We've finally found a very good Malaysian restaurant in Parramatta YEH!
Tested this place out for lunch today. Nice looking restaurant with clean and well set tables and very attentive waitress. Wasn't too busy when we arrived around 12:30pm. We both ordered from the lunch menu, Hainan Chicken Rice ($9.80) and Chicken Laksa ($9.80). We also ordered a serve of Chicken Satay as entree from the dinner menu, 6 sticks for $12.00. For drinks, a Teh Tarik ($4.00) and Soybean milk with grass-jelly drink ($4.50).
Hainan Chicken Rice arrived with a small bowl of soup and the necessary condiments of chilli sauce and soy sauce. Chicken Laksa arrived with a mixed of egg noodle and vermicelli, bean sprouts, tofu puff and topped with Chicken Curry (?). Chicken Laksa took me by surprise. I'm not a fan of egg noodle with my laksa but after a while you get used to it. The soup makes up for it. It did get a bit too rich and slightly sweet for me to finish the dish.
Hainan Chicken Rice was the star of our lunch. With the chicken de-boned beautiful and glistenning. It also tasted as wonderful as it looks. Chicken rice has a lovely chickeny taste. Our chicken satay, despite being ordered as our entree, arrived last. Although the chicken sticks looked dry, it was actually quite moist.
Slightly too gingery for our taste, but the peanut satay sauce was quite nice. They came with diced spanish onion, cucumbers and pineapples. The Teh Tarik arrived not long after our Chicken Satay, came in a small glass but piping hot. The total bill was just under $40 for the both of us, which I thought was slightly too expensive for lunch. If we re-visit, we will definitely order the Hainan Chicken Rice.
