Very good food - we shared gyoza (good) - and both had deluxe lunch box. $17 deluxe Lunch box was excellent especially the tempura and teriyaki chicken. Service was very good, there's also space upstairs btw. Only bummer was they over charged us $5...unless there is surcharge on weekend.
Very nice traditional Japanese food is provided by very nice warm hearted ownner and staffs! I felt I was at home! Karaage (Japanese chicken naguts and Tempura prawn roll are great!! I wanna try to be win Ramen challenge one day!
This is a funny little place, not many tables and seats but the food is really really really good as good as you get out of Japan. The ramen was superb - the pork was succulent and wasn't a ham like thin slice like at other Japanese restaurants. The sushi was tasty and cheap. This is a must visit if you're craving Japanese. Great value, 2 people $45 with entree. You should definitely give Komachi a go. Booking essential.
Had a slightly mixed experience here. After waiting several minutes inside before anyone bothered to approach us, no table had been kept for our reservation so we ended up squashed in at the bottom of the stairs. Not a great start.
The food was pretty decent though, the tofu, eggplant and sashimi were nice, I found it odd that they weren't prepared to make any fresh sushi rolls though unless we ordered a certain number. I thought the pancake was pretty average, the fried chicken bland. They nearly got a 7 though.
It's cheap and cheerful, and on a better night for service, we would have walked away happy.
I love this place!! We're there almost every week!! It is my favourite Japanese restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and I love the ambience. They have great decor and play traditional music during service. The tofu steak is a must and the sashimi is so fresh. I always bring friends here and everyone is always happy, they tried it out.
Frankly, I stand by all the good reviews below. The food at this place honestly rock! To say I was over the moon is understatement. While parking was a pain at peak time, the food deserves all the effort. We ordered the pork belly, agedashi tofu, miso paste eggplant, salmon sashimi, a seafood ramen, a tempura udon between the 2 of us and the bill only came up to $70 for everything.
The food tasted authentic and it has been ages since I found a place that served such delicious udon fish stock for soup! It was as good as the local family-run ramen stores I had eated in Nikko Japan. The best part was the udon being hand made. Yummy! The pork belly (under special dishes) was the highlight of the dinner. The base was light and little herbal taste with a good serving of greens stack below. The meat was so soft and full of infused flavour that kinda melts in your mouth.
The agedashi tofu was also fantastic and the base was so good that I kept it for dipping my udon noodles into it even though it isn't a cold dish. The eggplant was also fantastic and I love the fact that they didn't over do the paste and it wasn't as sweet. As we prefer varieties over huge quantities so I thought everything was in perfect size.
We would certainly return to this place and a good recommendation to people looking for good udon / ramen and side dishes to go with it!
Love this restaurant - have been about 7 times in the past month. Their sushi is so fresh - the lunch box is excellent. Great value, great food, great time always had. The tataki beef is excellent (wish they also served it during lunch) and the bbq octopus and the sauce just divine!!! Will keep going back time and time again. Thoroughly recommended.
I've had the pleasure of dining at Komachi many, many times. It's always struck me as odd that such a good restaurant could find itself in such an unprepossessing location. But the kind lady who always seems to greet me at the door works so hard to bring a good experience. Although the room is a little hard and awkward, the overall dining experience is highly recommended.
I visited Komachi with my best friend for some takeaway and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the agedashi tofu and fried eggplant with miso. Although the serving sizes aren't as huge as some other Jap places in the area, the flavours are simpler, clearer and far less sugary or MSG-laden. Recommended if you have cash to spare and are looking for homestyle cooking.
