Quality of food is ok (can eat), Quantity of food is well. I suggest people order dish with rice, not order dishes and steam rice separately in there. Price is really cheap as most of dishes with rice cost $6.60 and $6.80. Therefore, if you are just looking for full, there is a good place. However, if you are looking for somewhere to enjoy the ambience with your friend s or partner. Please go to the other restaurant.
If you are looking for good value and a delicious meal, look no further. Other people would tell you that if you walked into this restaurant, you may think twice about dining in it. The tables and chairs don't match, the floor can be sticky in some patches of the restaurant and if you and a friend are planning to dine, on a busy night, you are most likely going to end up sharing a table for 4 with 2 other people.
This lover of food says "Who cares!" The food is great. That is what people line up outside for, isn't it? If you do decide to go there, try what I believe are their specialities: Sang Don Chicken (don't know if I actually spelt that right), deep fried Calamari, I personally like to eat their wonton soup. Also try the Malaysian beans and Vietnamese style pork chop. All their servings are big and come on, who can really offer you such a large plate of food around or below 10 bucks per plate.
My whole family (when I say whole, this includes aunt, uncles, cousins and grampies) started going there generations ago. So far I have recommended about 5 other groups of people to go there, and they walk away always impressed on the size, value and taste of the dishes. We are there at least once a week. Try it and I reckon you would be too!
Materials used and serving size were very poor as well as service. We were placed on a table that could barely fit the food we ordered. Price is standard for the area. Atmosphere is more of a eat and leave kind of place. Might be viable for takeaway but dinner lunch not recommended
Sadly, with the recent (mid 2007) new ownership of the restaurant, I can't say these guys serve up the best Chinese food in Kingsford anymore. I've noticed that the length of the nightly queues have shortened. I've eaten here recently, and I've found that the quality of the food has dropped, and some dishes are now painfully bland compared to how I remembered them to be. Still very good value I guess, if you're after quantity rather than quality. But if I'm in the mood for good Chinese food, I'd go elsewhere from now on.
Salt and pepper squid, Sang Tung Chicken and Honey King prawn are my favourites. Braised dishes are also very good. Huge portions for dine in, great value as prices are cheap. Service can be appalling when this place is packed, and this happens almost every night, but people will still be outside queuing up to get a table. Upstairs dining is a lot more enjoyable than downstairs dining as you don't feel pressured to leave early, and the noise level is no way near as bad as downstairs.
Don't order take away dishes, you get charged the same price for smaller quantities of off cuts, vegetable stalks and pork bones, eg: Peking Spare Ribs are 9/10 dine in and 2/10 take away.
3 things on the menu: salt and pepper squid, honey pepper spare ribs and long beans. Food's pretty decent especially for what you're paying. Don't go there expecting good service cos it's really joint where you go in, have your food and get out.
Great value for nice, quick, authentic Chinese meal! We usually order the SanDong chicken (their specialty) and salt and pepper fish - both are so well cooked and to die for! Very efficient service and although staff can appear cold, we always receive good service. You could feed a family of 4 for $35 - which is excellent value but not somewhere to take your partner on a first date!
I came here several time, the food is ok, but they are not honest. Last time they charged the dish extra $2 and today they charged me $8 for steam rice. It's a rip off. I ask the waiters but they are so rude. Wacth out for your bill!!!! I definitely not coming back, so many chinese restaurant in that area.
Looks like there's a consistent thread in the reviews, and I'd have to agree: the food is fantastic but the service is pretty poor. Not that they're unfriendly, just that they're usually so busy! Order the Sang Tung chicken, the salt and pepper squid and if you still need more, go for the long beans. I've not tasted better versions of these anywhere else.
For a restaurant to be the size of what Chinese Kingsford is, it sure looks very busy at all times. The place is very very small and service is very unfriendly. Though you cannot go past their salt & pepper squid, sang tung chicken & long beans in chilli sauce. I seem to dislike that everytime I have take away, they can never be bothered to close the box lid.
