Very surprised by the authenticity of the food. You have to go deep into the city to get Yakitori and Okonomiyaki this good - it was definitely better than more popular places. As mentioned there was a longer wait for food than expected but the staff were friendly enough and the food more than compensated.
We had a table about 15 people and service was unfortunately, very slow even though there were only two other tables of 2-3 people. The restaurant is run by an elderly Japanese couple, an assistant and staffed by one waiter. It took a long time for the waiter to serve tea and water after we reminded him.
It took about 45 mins for the first entree to be served and while the other dishes were served 5-10 mins in between waiting time. The waiter obviously had no idea on the names of certain dishes, as he mentioned 'Gyoza' when he
served 'Takoyaki'! He caused a lot of confusion when food was served especially when we couldn't really differentiate Teppanyaki and BBQ, so we ended up eating the wrong one.
Servings were alright for mains, but the 'Beef Tataki' was sliced too thickly and wasn't what we expected. I'd say the food wasn't authentic enough for Japanese food. I would not go there again especially if we are to go in a big group.
Although it was very quiet tonight, it would of been better if there were more people who knew of the restaurant! it was our first time at Khawa and we thought the food was delicious and very affordable!
The service wasn't so slow which people kept rating, we say max 10-15min before entree came out and half an hour max for mains...we were gone in less than 1 hour! Talk about service and the people were generallt friendly! so I say I would recommend this place to others, and go there again next time when I'm in the mood for quality fresh Jap cuisine! YummmO!
I don't normally write bad reviews but the service at Khawa was extremely slow. There were only 1 other table when we arrived but it took the waiter 15 minutes to serve us tea, which we've had to remind him. It took 2 hours before the sushi and sashimi set arrived (by this time the restaurant had 3 tables). 2 of my sushis were falling apart and the rice in the sushi was hard.
The Sashimi didn't seem fresh, I was obviously given the end bits of the kingfish and tuna because instead of a nice piece I got a couple of dices. The restaurant was cold both decor and temperature. It was a cold night and the door was kept open all night. I was very disappointed with the overall experience at Khawa, I will definitely not recommend it to anyone.
The food was excellent, very fresh and delicious. The service was friendly and very good. Highly recommend this restaurant and will go back again soon.
I visited Khawa at around 8:30 on a Saturday night and enjoyed some delicious and beautifully presented food. My boyfriend's chicken katsu was huge, fresh and crispy. I also really enjoyed my sashimi salad, which had a good variety of sashimi chunks. My agedashi tofu was not bad, but a little on the sweet side for me.
Service was, unfortunately, very slow as there was a large birthday gathering at the next table. The restaurant is run by an elderly Japanese couple and staffed by one waiter, who was very courteous and obliging. I would visit again, as it's one of the better Japanese places out west, but only if there were very few people inside. Expect to pay $20-$25 a head.
The location is great, near the Parramatta ferry so you can have a nice romantic walk afterwards. The food though was average, I liked the takoyaki but my eel rice dish seemed small but I was full after my meal. The lettuce in the salad didn't taste right.
We loved entrees (grilled scallops & Japanese style pancake), the main was excellent as well (beef & seafood). The service was 10/10, been a long time since I last had service that good. Will be going again on our anniversary, and I highly recommended this resturant to everyone!
It was a Friday night and we wanted something different. Whilst in a quiet spot, which we quite like, the three of us were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the experience and friendliness of the staff. The food was very fresh and the sashimi was superb, especially the Kingfish. Will definitely go again.
Having read the negative reviews, I would have to totally disagree with them.
A hidden gem over-looking the river views, with fantastic service and sensational authentic food. The food was fresh, it did not take long to be served to us and all clean plates when we left. The chef came out and spoke to us at the end of our meal, which left us all smiling.
I would highly recommend this restaurant. (will definitely return)
