We have enjoyed a number of excellent meals here. Service tends to be quite good and meals are prepared quite quickly even when busy. The important thing is that the food is great. Curries, naan, fried rice and drinks are all tasty. The mango lassi is particularly good.

Khan Baba is one of the worst Indian restaurants I have been to in Sydney. The service was horrendous, after they seated my family and I we had to wait 20 minutes before we caught the eye of the waitress. She strolled over as though she was walking to her doom, dragging her feet and muttered “what do you want?” - I ordered and thought, maybe the food is so good the service doesn’t need to be and I would’ve been okay with that except the food was nothing to write home about.
After seeing the review of this restaurant in the SMH, I had to check the name of the restaurant to make sure we were at the correct restaurant. The review spoke of this place so highly, the quality of food, the service, I was expecting much more considering they gave this place 4 stars.
The chicken tikka masala tasted like something that came out of a bottle and the chicken biriyani lacked depth, it was just chunks of chicken in rice, it was very bland and you couldn’t taste any spices. The only thing I give this restaurant kudos for is the mango lassi, it was perfect.
After we had finished our subpar meal, we ordered some gulab jamuns. Meanwhile our dirty dishes were still in front of us and in order to prompt the waitresses we piled up our own plates, put all the serviettes and cutlery together thinking it may click to one of the waitresses that it’s part of their job description to clean the table after patrons have finished their meals but, no.
We ate our dessert with dirty plates piled all around us, half-way through my gulab jamun I asked one of the waitresses if they could clear our plates, she took one plate and two glasses, left the rest, disappeared into the back and never came back to collect the rest.
All in all, pretty disappointed with the restaurant in general. I would say don’t waste your money at this place when there a plenty of other restaurants in Auburn to choose from where the food is amazing, staff are competent and friendly.

Oh no... why? I read a review that rated this restaurant highly, I must go back and find out who that reviewer was and make sure I disregard all his future reviews. Lovely waitress, nice looking room... the food? OK so we ordered 2 entrees - incidentally, lunch time on a Tuesday, place had only 3 other tables filled. So, tandoori lamb chops, and tandoori prawns. Lamb was tough, how does lamb get tough? How do you get lamb to taste like mutton probably does? Guys, just marinate it in yoghurt, the enzyme will break down tough meat and you can get away with it. The prawns were obviously frozen asian ones, they didn't season them. Oh, and did I mention that there was only pepper (the already ground variety) at our table, so we tried to nick some salt from the other table because the prawns were in dire need of salt in fact any seasoning, and the other table had both dispensers with pepper! Now for the main course. We ordered butter chicken which when done properly should have flavour but not too much heat, and should be creamy with subtle but definite flavour. Get this... all you can taste is tomato paste. Ugh. I'd never go back, what an insult to Indian cuisine.

After reading a glowing review from smh, I decided I had to try this place. And with nearby mado on the same street, famous for its stretchy turkish ice cream I thought would make for the perfect end to the meal. I strongly advise making bookings, as several couples were getting turned away for not doing so, and still the place was pretty busy. We ended up waiting for about an hour, but spent it strolling down auburn rd and trying a gorgeously sweet sugar cane drink.
The service is always smiling and sweet, the decor is well thought out and the food was far from your average indian. Trying the generously served mixed platter we got to sample tandoori chicke, potato samosas which were in fact amazing, lamb tikka, eggplant. Their rotis are a must, airily fluffy. And the dish that I would come back for would be the peppery fish, the sauce was a multitude of flavors. Expect to pay around $25-30 pp which is great value.
