Not as spicey as Indian food but nice flavours. Tried the goat which was delicious and the lamb curry melted in your mouth. Nicely furnished with dim lighting and relaxing music. Waitress not so friendly but it was busy and she was the only waitress.

Kathmandu Ma was a lovely, quaint restaurant. The mismatched furniture, oil heater and Nepalese trinkets for sale, with the friendly service from the Nepalese owners made my husband and I feel comfortable and at home. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back!

My partner and I went to this restaurant on a friday night, unfortunately, we were the only diners in all night! Such a shame though because this restaurant should be supported by the local community. The Nepalese owner that served us was so great and told us all about the dishes, he actually looked like he cooked them too! The food was really good and the portions are absolutely reasonable. It is a little pricey but it offers a completely unique dining experience you really do feel like you are in Kathmandu! It should be one to try.

The food is so tasty that it satisfies the hunger more than a lot of the supposedly upper market high priced restaurants that more often than not disappoint. The problem with us Aussies is that if we don't have portions the size of six dinner plates or an all you can eat for $10 then it's no good. I love the simplicity and no fuss of this restaurant with great tasting food and friendly atmosphere.

Contrary to some of the unfavourable reviews below, I enjoyed eating at this restaurant. If you come to Newtown regularly or live nearby, it is a tasty change (from all the Thai!!). Different food, a quaint dining atmosphere and excellent service.
Service: The service was definitely outstanding. Ambience: I liked the layout of the restaurant - it doubles as a shop, selling a lot of Nepalese trinkets and there was nice Nepalese music playing in the background. Some may call it tacky - but I thought it was cute! Food: The food was not amazing - but it was definitely different. If you live in Newtown and dislike Thai . . . it was a welcome change! Aromatic and tasty.
Value: I thought it was fine for value! Others have complained about the value, but I didn't notice that the portion sizes were small at all. Particularly if you have the vegetarian dishes, which (if I remember correctly) were about $10 each.

This Napalese restaurant is an all time favourite of ours, it is a true hidden treasure of Newtown. The food is aromatic and extremely tasteful, the tomato archar and the pork dumplings are divine. The portion sizes are adequate and reasonably priced. The owner and his family provide outstanding service and are always attentive and friendly. The restaurant rarely has more than 2 or 3 tables seated, making it ideal for an intimate night with your partner. The only criticism would be that the menu is quite limited and the specials rarely change. I thoroughly recommend this dining experience.

The service was friendly and good. The entree dish MOMO was very delicous and better than most of the usual Chineese dumpling. The main of Goat Curry was alright too.

Went here recently with some friends. This was the first time I had tried Nepalese food and I was surprised at just how aromatic and flavoursome it was. The service was great and we came away all commenting on the exceptional taste. The ambiance could have been improved by some lower lighting but apart from that it was a great choice for dinner. Will definitely go again.
