Overview of Kasumi Japanese Restaurant

The best Izakaya Style Restaurant in Sydney. An Izakaya is a type of Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food to accompany the drinks. The food is usually more substantial than that offered in other types of drinking establishments.

The name "izakaya" is a compound word consisting of "i" (to remain) and "sakaya" (sake shop), showing that izakaya originate from sake shops which allowed customers to remain on the premises to drink.

Kasumi's Sake, Mochtail and Cocktail menu is designed to be enjoyed with our food, so please ask our staff for recommendations

Well trained Japanese Chefs

Specialized Hot Pot,Sushi, Sashimi, Sukiyaki, Shabushabu, Teriyaki Skewers and a variety of Japanese Sake.

Where do I start? After been shown the menu twice after been asked to move tables, I don't know why we had a large group and moved to a smaller table, we received just out of the packets menu which was fine but the main attraction we were all here for was missing. The noodle waterslide is no longer available. None the less we ordered.

Drinks service was very slow and so was the food. Some people received food straight away, others waited almost 1 hour for their food. Food was okay not great. Waiters were friendly but I'm not sure they understood everything. After many other little things that went wrong that night we were disappointed and will try again else where. Not recommended for groups of more than 10.

Hit and miss with the menu. Service is friendly and pleasant. It's not expensive either, but fried cartilage, the battered part was soggy. Monjya yaki was fun, but didn't taste great. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, so for that reason, I am happy to go back there to give it another try.

I regularly visit this restaurant. The sushi/sashimi is well presented. There is always something new to try. If you want something difference and new experience, definitely worth a try.

Just came back from Japan, we looked for Japanese Restaurant in city.

Wow! feel like back to Tokyo again? Food was excellent! Sushi and Sashimi were well presented with variety of fish. Beef tataki was delicias, simple food is hard to tell its good or not, but their food delighted us!

Price were reasonable, good for value. Service was excellent, the waiter top out water and sake, very attentive and super friendly! Well back soon!

Extremely disappointed with the service as only 2 dishes arrived in an hour. There were confused looks from the waitresses and eventually someone asked us what dishes we had. Clearly forgotten and not a busy night. Even our first dish (takoyaki) was cold when it arrived, waitresses forgetting tea when specifically requested.
Food was good but unfortunately ruined by poor service throughout the night.

Just got back from japan, was a little 'homesick' and made the trek to haymarket. It has some nice touches and the basics are there, (bbq meats and alcohol!), but it isn't jap quality izakaya service at all.

The opening hours say "Dinner: Mon to Sun 5:30pm - 2am", but we arrived before 11pm on a Saturday and were asked to "please order quickly because we close at 12".

It seemed like the senior staff was sitting at a booth and repeatedly ordering the staff around. Not sure why she had to sit front of house and really upset the whole vibe.

Food was okay but needs at least another skewer per plate to be good value. The live guitar music guys was a nice surprise though. I'll probably still go back in future, as there aren't many other Jap options open at 11 pm...yet.

Nice try but doesn't have the welcoming, cozy, tidy and efficient izakaya vibe that I know and love.

A few friends and I went in for some dessert on a Friday night. Service was excellent, staff were friendly and the place was very comfortable. I had the dessert special and it was amazing. Great value. Can't wait to go for dinner.

Cool place, very authentic Japanese izakaya style restaurant. Cute waiters and ok food. I like their salty entrees, it goes well with sake and other alcohol. Try mimigar, its like Japanese style prosciutto with special sauce! so yummy.
