Excellent! Really!.
The service is great and the food is just as good. We went there for fathers day breakfast and while it is a bit of a drive for us (from Northern Beaches) it was well worth the trip.
It is a relaxed place that serves some of the best breakfast meals I've seen - especially for one who thinks b'fast is the most enjoyable meal of the day. The eggs benedict was perfect, and the coffee is great too. Ok, you get the point. Go there and check it out. I definitely will be back.

We love Kantine and regularly have dinner here during the week. The menu is on par with most fine dining establishments "without" the price tag and up tight atmosphere. Staff are friendly, professional and accommodating, food is outstanding, Highly recommended. Breakfast on the weekends is also great, completely different atmosphere as you'd expect, we go most weekends.

We love this place! We have never had a bad meal. Prices are reasonable and the portions are good. I have also been recently diagnosed as a Coeliac, and it was such a joy to go there on Friday night and be able to choose from 90% of the mains as the chef was very accommodating. We just wished we lived closer!

Kantine is a fantastic neighborhood restaurant. Prices/portions are fair, and flavours are extraordinary given the market segment (upscale cafe). One of the best places to get high quality food in a casual setting. Great outdoor seating, nice interior, and reasonable prices.
The steaks and regularly occurring fish specials are really among the best dishes I've had in Sydney (rivaling Rockpool Bar & Grill). The seared tuna and grilled lamb salads are amazing. Peach tarte-tatin for two is a great choice for a hefty dessert.
Don't expect haute cuisine but do expect ridiculous value. $35 per person gets you a great meal with a glass of wine.
I've read some other reviews mentioning service, it's true that service is not comparable to high-end restaurants. It's a cafe, and that's how it should be compared. The owners and staff are lovely and make customers feel welcome but Kantine is heavily frequented by regular locals which does raise the possibility of uneven service.
Give it a try, definitely worth your time.

Went here for breakfast after reading all the positive reviews but won't return.
Food: Huge gap between the two meals we had. The corn and coriander fritters were exceptional, very tasty and yummy. But my tomato, avocado, basil pesto + ricotta with sourdough was incredibly bland and boring. What was worse, I was only given 1 (One) little piece of toast with an entire avocado and too much ricotta. So I asked for another slide of toast and just as I was about to finish my meal, 4 (Four) more slices of toast were delivered, for which I was then charged an extra $5!
Ambience: We sat outside and had a view of the street on a sunny day. Fine, nothing special.
Service: This is where they failed. Our waitress (who mentioned in passing that it was one of her last days) and another waiter really didn't care about us new customers, but happily chatted away with their regulars for minutes while we had to wait to order and get the bill. We were also not given any water, unlike all other customers.
Value: Many breakfast places in the region, particularly Toast, offer better value. The pricing is comparable with Bang Bang, which I would prefer over Kantine though.

Exceptional food and very nice summery fitout. The service was prompt. Slightly pricey, but the quality of produce was excellent. Also should note the owner was very attentive but he should be dressed in slightly more professional clothes than a Tshirt and shorts considering he isn't charging cafe prices, more restaurant prices. Other than that, loved it.

Decided to try Kantine out for my birthday dinner with my partner on Monday this week.
We ordered the Squid salad starter to share firstly - which was presented beautifully and was delicate and simple. The garnish dressing was a tad too sour for my liking but didn't overwhelm the squid, which was presented as two rather large coiled tubes (much like two enchiladas snugly wrapped). Otherwise it was a light and tasty appetiser.
For the mains I had the pork belly, while my partner had the battered Flathead with shoestring fries. We also had a side of mash and green beans. My Pork belly on a bed of fennel and chickpea was fantastic – so juicy and tender, and the large sheet of crackling was delicious! My partner really enjoyed his ‘fish & chips’ and the sides were delicious also!
I can’t wait to return to Kantine for brunch sometime soon – but for dinner, I can’t recommend it more! Believe the reviews and give them a go, you will love it!

This was a very special evening for me as my wife and I are thinking of getting back together so I wanted to choose somewhere special. I looked at all the fancy well known places in the area and they had mixed reviews but this place had only a few but excellent feedback.
From the moment you walk in, it feels relaxed and groovy, from the design of the place to the wait staff. We started out with some amazing tasting cocktails which were fantastic and then followed up with starters of Szechuan spiced squid and Smoked ham hock and chicken liver terrine. My wife compared the terrine to what she recently experienced in France which I would say is a big complement.
Our main meals were a combination of a 200 day grass fed fillet and roasted chicken breast stuffed with citrus, olives, thyme with puy lentil and bacon ragout + Zucchini salad, both very tasty. Whatever you do, avoid the big name restaurants and come here, you feel welcomed, you can take as long as you want and your value is incredible.
