Had the dinner buffet. One of the waiters was quite helpful as he let us know that you could choose from the whole menu. They are also always available to take more orders unlike some places which try to avoid you ordering too quick. The quality of food is good without being great. But I found that we ordered and ate quiet a lot. Prob up to or more than $38 worth which is more I can say about other buffets. Only gripe is that theres no dessert there.
I had a beef katsu udon at this place and it was well done. The ambience lets the place down slightly (too noisy), and it's not the best value for a place in the Hunter Connection. Overall, if you want a quick and decent meal without regard to anything else then give it a shot.
I had dinner with a group of my friends in here few days ago. We chosen the $38 dollars buffet which includes the Sashimi Boat and Hot Pot. The quality of food is fine and above the standard. I can see a wood boat when we ordered the Sashimi Boat. Hot Pot is really good.
The ambience is emem, I will say that it is not a good place to hold a function or party because the size of restaurant is not big, the decoration is very simple and quite crowded and noisy if the restaurant is full. However, it is a good place to meet your friends for lunch or dinner with chatting.
The service is fine in weekday, we waited around 15-20 minutes to get our food. The attitude of the waitress (I think they are Korean) are fine in the weekday but I am not sure in weekend when they are busy. The value is excellent, I think $28 buffet is also a great deal. I definitely go back after I don't feel sick of sashimi^^ (I ate so many plates of sashimi and I was so full on that night).
I came here with a group of 9 friends on Thursday night. The reviews here are quite mixed, but I've been to Kansai on three occasions in the past, with three different groups, and they've all been very good. We all had the $28 buffet and shared a bottle of wine. The food was impressive. We basically tried everything on the menu.
The entree dishes were tasty and not too salty. The gyozas were cooked very well, and not too oily, we had about 30. The yakitori was also cooked well, chicken was tender and flavoursome. The chilli octopus is a must, same with pork kimchi. These chilli dishes add variety to the teriyaki sauce based dishes. The sashimi salad was also very refreshing, with a good serving of diced up sashimi and vegetables.
The sushi here were very fresh, well made and presented. They weren't made with huge blobs of rice, which is good since you don't want to be filling your stomach at buffet with rice. The soft shell crab handroll had a large piece of crab, and was very well seasoned. The fusion rolls were also excellent, definitely photo worthy, although the teriyaki sauce and mayo were a tad heavy. Edamame beans are a must get, to nibble on while waiting for your food to digest.
I was also quite impressed with the service. The waiter was very helpful and made realistic suggestions about how many servings of each dish we should get, so we didn't over/under order. The staff were pleasant, and more than happy to take more orders.
$28 buffet is definitely worth your value, you get a great variety of food, and it's a great place to hang out with your friends.
This restaurant is exactly what it should authentically be ... 'a sushi bar'. It assimilates the common features as you would find when you do travel to a few sushi places in Okinawa Japan due to its relaxed environment, timber joinery and a bar where sushi chefs will be making their magic.
Certainly a place where you feel the need to eat all the Sushi till your heart's content. You will be immediately greeted in by, whom I assume, a male owner/manager who has a warm hospitable attitude. Do not be turned off by its lack-of-fine-dining-furniture but rather be prepared to eat some great tasting food.
The sushi is prepared fresh in front of you and the chefs and waitresses were attentive to our needs. A great experience was had by myself and my group of friends.
Very nice food, including warm sushi. The all you can eat menus are great value. It's a bit crowded and noisy sometimes, with the staff a little run off their feet. Good for a casual and loud group night out.
Worst food! The salmon pieces on top of the sushi was dry and warm! It tasted as if it had been frozen and then defrosted a few times! Definitely not fresh at all! Didn't even have the usual sliminess of sashimi! Teriyaki chicken was just plain soy chicken and the squid still had the seafood smell!
Agedashi tofu is my favourite dish and they used dry tofu with the incorrect batter! I've had agedashi before and it did not taste or look anything like this! The sauce for the agedashi was bland and tasted very much like water. I took one bite and couldn't eat anymore.
The only thing we could eat was the tempura prawns, which is probably their best dish. No problems with that one. The sushi was definitely not fresh and the rice was definitely old! Very disappointed because japanese is my favourite cuisine! We've never had to leave a restaurant no matter how disappointed we were with the food, it was unbearable!
Tried here before a show, around 6.30 pm. Got very busy later on. We thought the food was fresh and tasty. The sashimi platter was done before our eyes and the 3 fish were very tasty. The Dragon was excellent, didn't really like the karaage chicken, but thought we'd try a few things.
The ambience isn't fantastic, but as it's a below street level shopping arcade, you can't complain. It is a pain going to the toilet (you need a key for the centres toilet), but hardly the restaurants fault. On the whole there is no reason to complain, as the value is fantastic, we had 2 sashimi platters! I thought the alcohol prices were pretty reasonable for the CBD.
We went back for a revisit and we are so disappointed with how Kansai has turned out over time. The chef’s are all new and seemed very incompetent. They rather stand around and chat than getting our sashimi boat ready. The sashimi platter was half completed and the kitchen staff was standing there with the fish and chatting away. What a total disgrace. The food this time around is really bad and it seems to me they are concentrating on quantity rather than quality now.
The volcano and dragon were our fav from Kansai and we were devastated to find out that it was made with day old (or more) left over sushi. Last time we were there, the chefs made it right in front of our eyes with flair and it was beautifully presented and fresh. This time, its more about using old sushi rolls, dress it up and pass it on as edible food.
What a total disgrace. The sashimi salad was disgusting and dry and we left half way through dinner. It is such a shame and no excuse would ever be enough. We will never be returning to Kansai
