THE FOOD You'll find at Kanemochi all your Japanese favourites that you crave for, including the popular teriyaki chicken. Kanemochi has an extensive menu that will satisfy everyone; from the experienced Japanese diner / traveller to the newcomer. A selection of hot dishes is available on the menu including the famous appetiser- Seafood Gyoza. For those wanting something a little lighter, the freshly prepared sashimi & sushi menu is ideal. Popular choices include the restaurant's own Kanemochi roll which has a delicious combination of seafood & vegetables.
THE SETTING Typical Japanese ornaments of dolls and puppets adorn the setting at Kanemochi, cute whilst still being quirky and eclectic. Diners can relax amongst the non stop flowering cherry blossoms, thanks to the intricate detailed wallpaper of course. Between the Zen spaces of wallpaper are bold black painted sections. The combination of the two creates clarity & calmness. Glistening detailed lights create a glow and gusto, but every so lightly, as the Japanese do. THE SERVICE Expect service with sincerity and a smile at Kanemochi. Despite being relaxed and cosy the staff are eager to please, without over doing it.

I come here often and think the food is a hit, however, the service can be quite slow even if the restaurant isn't busy, it seems to have no sense of urgency in the kitchen, if the place is packed (which I never saw) then prepare to wait.

Went lunch and had Teriyaki salmon set and Sushi & sashimi set. It was amazing and so yummy I never ever had. All lunch sets come with main meal , 2pcs of vegetable tempura with fried gyoza and fresh salad, even miso and rice which made me so full. For sushi & sashimi set, good volume and so fresh. Teriyaki sauce was so lovely and both definitely worth of having. Will keep going back and wanna try Dinner menu next time!

Had lunch menue today. Ordered Udon+Sushi lunch special, $12. Udon came out in a very small bowl, while 4 pieces of sushi were each the size of baby's pinky. Micro sushi. Seriously, the smallest sushi I've ever seen. I would have laughed if we weren't starving!

My husband's karaage chicken special was similarly light on essential part of the dish, with only 4 pieces of karaage present in the box, the rest being two clusters of tempura onions and carrots, and a green salad. That was a far cry from previously generous portions. Not coming back!

Kanemochi, sort out your food portion sizes, offering pea-sized rice balls with a tiny tiny sliver of fish cannot be called 'sushi'. No restaurant in Japan would insult their customers with such ridiculously tiny sushi!

Had lunch here today and was disappointed. The gyozas were the worst we have ever had anywhere. Even the packet ones we cook at home are better! the ones they served were lukewarm and soggy like they had been re-heated.

80% of the chicken teriyaki consisted of onions and carrots. I think I got about 4 small pieces of chicken. Udon and miso soups were ok but sashimi was mediocre.

Service was so-so although I thought it was a little slow considering there were only 4 other people there at the time. The quality of the food let them down. Cannot understand the high ratings everyone has given this place.

Thank you for your advice. It helps a lot to give better service to our customers.

You might have bad lunch on that day, but we will try to serve better food and service to any customers having meals at our restaurant.

We wish when you might or might not come next time, if you have bad service from our restaurants, we promise that we will not make you be disappointed anymore.

Have been here a few times now and have been trying different foods each time. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced. The staff are also efficient and pleasant. Will definitely keep going as this is the best japanese in Manly since Minatos closed.

Great presentation of food, taste wise we've had better. Service was a bit stretched but it was a busy night. On the whole a pretty decent evening.

Excellent authentic food. I'm a but of a sushi nut having lived in Japan and I loved the freshness and presentation. Nicest Japanese we've found in Manly by far.
The service was a little hit and miss but very friendly none the less. Good value. Will definitely go back.

Great food, some seriously tasty sushi although not entirely sure what the chewy white thing was (def not eel, as far as I could tell), dreadful (but amusing) service, hilarious choice of 90s hits music, nicely decked out. Definitely going back.

I had the karaoke and beef bento box. The food wasvery tasty, I was quite impressed. Friendly and attentive staff. The decor was very nice. Like other Japanese restaurants that I have been to though, the music was modern. I really would like a Japanese restaurant to play Japanese music (rather than Britney Spears). however, I would recommend Kanemochi. I will be going back!
