Terrible food, and poor value. Fried food was soggy, laksa (for $11.80) had only a few slices of chicken, bean curd and plenty of beehoon with a bland taste. Our lunch was made by a girl who looked barely beyond 20 years old. I'm sorry, but the food is way below my standard.

I am Malay background. I ordered the nasi lemak, terrible. the chicken wing looked like it was deep fried twice so it was really dry. The sambal is wrong, whats with all the onions. The rice was ok, the flavour was a bit too subtle for me. Overpriced I think. I don't think I will be back. It is not a good representative of malay food.

Satay stick had tiny portions. Didn't particularly like their rice dish (Kampong special?) as it was a bit dry and deepfried but the prawn egg noodle was tasty and wholesome.

Something different if you have not tried Malaysian food. My husband loves the Nasi Goreng spicy rice. The lemon iced tea is really good. Tastes homemade. The staff are happy to help with deciphering the menu.

Went down to Hurstville, saw this Malaysian and try it out. Turns out to be fantastic. The decor is simple but classy, the jazzy music are relaxing.
Service are excellent, the waitress even ask what kind of chili paste do I want with my Laksa! the satay n peanut sauce are awesome. Simply the most enjoyable dining experience we had in Hurstville. Definitely be back for more.

The name of the restaurant, Kampong Boy, makes me very hopeful for an authentic Malaysian taste. And stepping into the place, with its timeless feel, increases my expectations. However, the glassed kitchen area, not a traditional M'sian fixture, left me a bit confused.
I ordered the traditional Ipoh soup noodles, it looks all right, but the taste was just average. I could reproduce the same at home. It lacks the aroma, the extra zing that makes it worth while to go to a restaurant for. However, I decided to give it another chance, and I asked one of the staff what the signature dish were.
He couldn't name any and then I asked what he would recommend for me to try, and still couldn't suggest anything. So, I helped him out and asked if their nasi goreng was nice, or their laksa. He was still stammering, in the end I just ordered the Kampong Boy rice to take away, which was like a nasi lemak but without the traditional mix.
I had to admit, I liked the achar and the satay was nice. But, the staff's lack of knowledge of the food and the less than stellar traditional noodle soup, these do not invite me back to the place.

This addition to the Husrtville food scene is much welcomed. Food is hit and miss. Laksa and char kway teow (Fried flat rice noodle) probably the better dishes. But freezing cold in winter as no heater and steaming hot in summer as no airconditioning. On 1 occasion, told no washroom or toilet available. Not sure if this breaches council planning rules, but I was not hanging around in the hot room and made my way elsewhere for water therapy.

Food was excellent, great value, 5 of us was only $78. Restaurant a little bit small so gets full quick, we waited about 20 minutes but was worth it. I don't think they take bookings.

Found this small Malaysian restaurant today. Fantastic selection on the menu (including street foods) great Laksa and satay chicken. The Kampong Boy Nasi Lemak is kinda like a combo deal, you get to try a little of everything.
Great food, atmosphere and food, especially for the price. Will definitely be back over and over.
