Fantastic food, great variety, and the best roti in Sydney. I've eaten there 6 times and the food is always wonderful. Unfortunately, the service is awful, presumably the owner thinks floor staff are a waste of money. If only they knew how many customers walk out (often without even sitting down) because there's often no sign of any service.

I tried the food there and was impressed with the taste and will definitely be back. Attention should be given to service there, it was very poor.

This restaurant is for food and is worth the penny you have spend on it. Murtabak and dhal sambar was a combination to be tasted, don't miss that out. My friends tried different food were also very satisfied.
As a token of appreciation I would recommend this restaurant to pals who are interested in trying indo-malaysian food. If you want to try sub-continental beer its ready and feel the difference. Its Sydney's best.....cheers.

I have ate food in many Indian restaurants and as an Indian I do know my food. These guys are great! I have had many many fine meals at very reasonable prices and have recommended it to all my friends who have never been disappointed!!! Go try it, it's awesome!!! All the curries are great, they make the best Dosai in Sydney if not Australia, and are a really nice bunch of people. I know the service is a bit here and there but what would you rather have bad food and good service OR great food and ok service!!! I know which one works for me!!!
enjoy it and see the difference!!

Yummiest hoppers and lamprice ever tasted!! The crab curry @ just $10 is awesome value for money and truly authentically tasty. Every dish we tried were exceptional. Try the sago with palm syrup or Faluda for dessert.
The lack of a pleasant ambience and service lets the place down but despite that we had dinner there 4 times in our 7 nights stay in Sydney!!. The food always lived up to expectation even though no interest was shown by the 2 waiting staff despite regular visits. If the owner of this place gets the service at this place right he would have a winner at his hands. Oh, and look after the chef and make sure he stays!!

This is a great restaurant - one of a kind in King Street, amidst an overload of generic Indian and Thai restaurants. The food is fantastic, and the staff are really friendly, although the service can still do with a bit of work.

Kammadhenu is true to its quote on the door that says, ' The Best in Sydney' - for Sri Lankan/Malaysian/Indian cuisine. I have been there countless times and the quality of food on offer is unwavering and exceptional. There is a vast selection of food and every dish is to be savoured.
The diverse selection of Asian beer brands is also unrivalled and is a must if you have never tried one. They are expanding their seating capacity upstairs as well, which I think is wise because there are nights when seats are hard to come by. I would give Kammadhenu a 5 Star Rating and would recommend it to any food lover!

This place has the best curry in town. The food is freshly prepared in a home cooked style, and the variety of dishes is great. Be warned, it is so good that on the weekends they are prone to running out of some dishes if you get there after 8.30pm. The fish fry, vegetable fried rice, nasi goreng, lamb curry and octopus pirate are just amazing! The service is ok, the two boys scurrying around work really hard and are very pleasant but there is room for improvement which I am sure they know and will sort out. Overall if you are look for top quality Sri Lanka cuisine, this is the place to go, take a bottle of wine and enjoy the food.

Kammadhenu's Lankan cuisine thankfully predominates along with an eclectic mix of Indian, Malaysian and Indo-Chinese flavours. And this is its great sucess because it clearly differentiates itself from every other restaurant on the taste-bud map that is Newtown. Although it's been opened less than three months, I've been there often enough to have surely been disappointed at least once. But so far I've had some of the best rendang in Sydney; the most incredibly flavoursome chicken sambal and a great goat curry. The wafer-thin pancake-like dosai are stuffed with many different combinations of vegetables and meat, and the roti they make here has to be a genuine contender for the best roti in town. I really can't fault the food.
Unfortunately the high quality of the food is often let down by the poor quality of the service. I'm just hope that the often indifferent service is the result of teething problems. If they can get their wait staff anywhere near the standards that the food sets, they've got a bright future. In the meantime if you can preserve a certain amount of patience for the slow delivery, you'll be seriously rewarded with some of the most amazing flavours to have arrived in Newtown for some time.
