Dined at Kalevu on Valentines Day due to hearing about the great special offered (3 courses for $69). My partner and I were promptly seated and straight away our waitress was there to greet us with the most amazing complimentary appetizers.

On receiving our entrees (scallops and prawn tortellini), our waitress brought out our wine as per requested with our entrees.

Entrees were lovely, great balance of flavors and really fresh. Mains were no exception. The duck was the best I have ever had. My partner had the eye fillet steak which was cooked exactly to his liking.

In all the experience was very memorable, food amazing, prices reasonable and service attentive. Will be back as soon as possible! The complimentary valentines chocolates also added a nice touch!

Went to Kalevu on a Saturday night. Restaurant fitted out very nicely, however, felt compelled to mark the ambience very low as frankly, on a table of 4, we could not hear each other. We ended up just talking to the person opposite. My friend had an app on his i-phone to measure noise and the decibel reading was and average of 89 (not counting the squeals from the table next to us)!

Food was fine, nothing flash or memorable. Very limited menu. I had the barramundi which was Ok but nothing special. Two of us ordered the dessert with the persian fairy floss (as my friend had never had it), out came dessert with no persian fairy floss.

When we finally caught a staff members eye and asked what had happened to the fairy floss, a shrug of the shoulders and an explanation of "we ran out", saw the look on our faces and came to the table with a plate of 4 chocolates (1 each) to compensate.

Waitress very bubbly and friendly (a natural), owner introduced himself (nice touch). Will not return on a Saturday night unless they can do something about the noise - parking horrendous!

Update January 2012 - Was persuaded to return with just one friend through the week. Much quieter, however, the attitude hasn't changed. I think the meals are overpriced and do not reflect that they are a main road in the suburbs! We had a main each and one coffee. Bill was $65 per head. Won't be returning.

Haven't been back. Went with another couple. Males ordered duck, we ordered fish. The fish meal was 3 times the size of the duck meal so men were hungry. No one advised them that the meal was small so perhaps they should order side dishes. Explained this to the chief/owner who wasn't sympathetic at all. Hence we haven't been back. Food tasted good. We are very local so they have missed out on a lot of repeat business as we regularly eat at that particular restaurant strip.

We had dinner here last week and again the food was fabulous, couldn't fault anything. But will not be back on a Friday or Saturday night, it was just far too noisy. What was meant to be an intimate anniversary dinner turned into a yelling match to be heard. Very disappointing.


Previous review: What a hidden gem, I had no idea it had been there for 3 years and feel a bit cheated at having missed out for so long. Honestly, it's probably the best meal I've ever had in the Sutherland Shire, better than anything you will find in Cronulla.

Quality and value is outstanding but during the week the $42 for two courses is even better. Last night we had pork belly and scallops for the entree and rib eye and duck for mains, all were cooked beautifully and looked and tasted wonderful.

When the staff found out it was our anniversary they treated us like royalty even bringing out a free entree when our mains were slightly delayed. Cannot wait to go back!

Entrees were pretty good. Mains were good but wouldn't have said they were amazing. Service was excellent and very quick, even though the place was reasonably busy our requests were promptly acted on. Overall enjoyed the meal and think this is a decent restaurant.

Kalevu's Chris is doing a great job (together with his neighbour Seven Lanterns) in raising the bar for food in the shire.

The food is presented very well and the ever changing menu keeps us coming back every 1 or 2 weeks. The staff are very friendly too. This restaurant would easily compete with many in the city and come out streets ahead.

Dined here with a group on a saturday night, nice looking restaurant, friendly/ professional/efficient staff, but did get the impression of feeling a tad rushed so they could get out. Didn't order entree as nothing was to my taste but they did sound nice if you ate seafood or game.

My veal main was delicious, the pork ribs (which I normally would not order) that came with them broke away from the bone so easily and were very tasty, yum hot chips with it too. Didn't really enjoy my waffle dessert, too dry and biscuit like, otherwise, I would have rated 10 for food with the main (and everyones mains) being so good. Shame they don't do cocktials but pleased you can BYO wine.

Would happily go back as a treat for a special occasion.

This is world class food in suburban Sylvania. The creme brule was the finest the princess has ever tasted and that is saying something. My entree of tempura prawns was amazing, the eye fillet steak was tender ann cooked to perfection. I had to leave a review as this restaurant ius definately better than the rating it has so far. Kids were getting the gelato served in an eye widening ice dome which I have never seen before. Chris also came out to talk to his customers which is a lovely personal touch. Good job and we'll be back soon.
