Service only to be credited to young Indian fellow. Other staff members slow and rude. Busy cafe, great coffee however expensive but well worth it. Do recommend, however will not be back!
Food rating is ONLY based on coffee and at that, a double espresso. Pretty darned good and, perhaps, on par, or slightly under the magnificent standard of Grind a couple of minutes away.
Their double espresso is perfect and proper, not a half standard size coffee cup, but a true shot in an espresso glass. The beans are a smooth flavour with no bitterness at the end, however, (sadly) not as potent as that at Grind. Great thick, dark crema too. Worth a visit.
Wasn't there for a long stay, so cannot rate the ambience, but clearly not as good as that of Bar Coluzzi in Darlo. Service was quick, attentive and polite on my visit.
Value is average as it is standard coffee prices to everywhere else.
Best coffee in the south bar none! Food is always tasty. Don't come here if you want a pristine cafe experience. It is the well-worn nature of the place that is the attraction. NO SKIM!
I recommended this cafe to my family. It was a weekday morning not busy. We started with coffee and the barista refused 3 separate times to make the coffee that was ordered. If this was a hard order I would have understood but no where else I have ordered from have found a double shot 3/4 latte hard. The selections on the menu was great but not for the health conscience. The waiter was even embarrassed.
I used to come to kafenio all the time and loved the food and friendly staff although upon watching more closely, I noticed that the lady was horrible to the waitstaff. I stopped going there probably around late october early november last year as a result of this and thought I'd give it a try again a few weeks ago.
To my surprise (please notice the sarcasm) none of the 3 lovely, pleasant, attentive, fast, professional and very friendly female waitstaff who were always there were.
My meal was nice as was the coffee, although the place does not have the same feel and was not nearly half as busy. To the lady you should be ashamed, making those girls cry and scaring not only them but your customers away.
You don't go to Kafenio if you like pristene white table clothes, the charm is in the grimy look of the place but very clean. Best Coffee in Sydney with charming staff, Tess and Jason do a fantastic job.
Best coffee in Shire. Have to come here every sunday for brunch. Apart from one arrogant waitress everyone else's very friendly. Sometimes have to wait longer for food but it's worth it.
Absolutely great coffee. Food is fantastic as well. Great standard menu with really interesting choices on the specials board. Love the grilled haloumi!
