This was our first trip to Kafenes and we were very pleased. We were running late but that was not any problem for them. The food was absolutely fantastic. The dips were great, halomi done well and the zuchinni dumplings you have to try.

The mains were just as good, meat fell off the bone and there was ample of it, I went home very contented. The price is good value and the staff were always helpful and very pleasent. We were on an outside table but they never forgot about us. I would definitely recommend going, we are planning the next trip

I have visited Kafenes three times, The food has never failed to disappoint me.

The lamb is spectacular and the dips are the best i have tasted. I have never had a problem with the service, always warm & friendly. It feels good knowing that I can go to a restaurant and have my money well spent. The restaurant is tiny though, so it can get a little smokey at times but other then that, dig in!

Can't recommend this place enough. The food is just fantastic and the most delicious melt-in-your-mouth lamb you ever tasted. Service is swift and attentive. Can be a bit noisy when busy but highly recommend a visit.

Excellent local place. Wonderful seafood, delicious lamb, perfect bread and excellent white bait. Moussaka is the only sub-par dish here - not bad but doesn't reach the heights of the rest of the menu. Service is laid back and friendly but never slow. As Newtown's gentrification creeps westward, I hope places like this can survive.

I dined at Kafenes last night and thought I would add some coments whilst still fresh in my mind!

Kafenes is a nice little restaurant on Enmore Road with friendly staff.

We started off with some dips and pitta. The eggplant dip was the best I have ever tried! However the roast potatoe and garlic dip had everyone running for cover, way too much garlic! The fresh warm pitta was delicious, we had a mix of regular and garlic pitta.

After the dips we moved on to some mixed entrees to share. Dolmades, loukanica (sorry about the spelling!), prawn saganaki and holoumi. The dolmades were served with a tszaki dip and were nice but a little lacking in flavoiur. The loukanica chorizo sausage was to die for and we were informed it was home made! Prawn saganaki was a generous serve of 7 king prawns in a beautiful sauce which everyone raved about and the haloumi was also very good, specially when used to mop up the saganaki sauce!

For mains we had roast lamb, lamb souvlaki and mousaka. I had the lamb on the recomendation of the waitress which was a lovely dish but unfortunately the lamb was overcooked and too dry. The souvlaki was very good but my friend was disappointed that it came with chips. The mousaka was also very good.

I have been a regular at Kafenes for a couple of years now. I have not been let down by the food. The service slows down when it gets busy, but this is expected. The animated service and interaction between staff and customers is welcomed and should be appreciated for it's uniqueness rather than criticised.

I would suggest the bbq cheese (haloumi), bbq sausage (loukaniko) and the slow cooked lamb for mains. The honey puffs (loukoumades) are a must with a Greek coffee to finish. All very Greek and all very good. Soul food for Greeks.

I had a very enjoyable meal - my first experience of Greek dining for quite some time. The service is excellent. BYO wine. Tables are available both inside and outside in the street.

My friends and I have been dining regularly for the last 2 or 3 years, and I am amazed by the recent critical comments about Kafenes. At Kafenes you get nothing but excellent Greek food. Make sure you go to Kafenes when there are no shows on at the Enmore Theatre, otherwise you will be lucky to get a table. My advice to people who complain about the haloumi, mousaka and loukanika, is quite simple - go somewhere else.
