This is a terrific place. Try the light and healthy zucchini fritters and the baked prawns (rice, tomato, feta) or the lamb with lemon potatoes for a satisfying, authentic meal. Coffee also excellent. Pleasant, professional environment.
We had dinner here on a saturday nite - we had a late booking but popped in to see if we could make it earlier - one of the waitresses said she would call me as soon as the table became free -which she did...great start.
What can I say? My husband and I are big Greek food fans - both of us have been to Greece 3 or 4 times and this is the first time we've tasted such good Greek cuisine in Australia..the servings are generous but the food is very healthy - hence you don't get that bloated. We had the zuccini flowers for entree (TUMMO - am still dreaming about them) and lamb and seafood for mains.
The food is divine and service impeccable..we are going to start going to Emore to eat alot more - so much better value than Newtown or Glebe..thanks for a wonderful meal and experience Kafenes - it really took us back to when we have visited Greece - so you are doing a fantastic job !
I went here with a family or 4 and I have to say it is a great honest restaurant. The food is great and fresh, not too large and not too salty as you can get with some old school chefs who are still around. The place is always full and they are accommodating if you need to change something. Highly recommended without people going on about how much better their mums cooking is at home....
We just loved this place. I went with a big group and we had the set menu @ $40, then we ordered a few desserts to share across the table. Tons of food and all delicious. The prawns are yummy and the lamb is to die for, simply melts off the bone. The baklava is the best I've ever tasted!
The dips are great. Go for the sampler with four dips. We got a swordfish (not on the standard menu) and the lamb-in-a-pot. Too much meat, perhaps. But really, really tasty. Highly recommended.
We went for an early dinner and this has to be the best greek food I have tasted! The loukoumades (dessert) are a hands-down winner and the best in Sydney, the mousaka didn't disappoint, the seafood mix was nice but salty and the lamb souvlaki a tad dry. Servings are generous and delicious! My only qualm is we were hurried out at 8 pm as someone else was waiting for a table.
I wasn't thrilled by Kafenes. The dips were great, and the service was OK, but our mains (garlic prawns and meatballs) were pretty average. OK for the local Greek joint but I won't be going back.
4 of us went on saturday night to Kafenes. It was my first Greek food experience & it was fantastic. The food was amazing, I especially loved the dips! The service was outstanding, we told them we were going to a show at the Enmore & they made sure they had our food out to us asap so we weren't late for our show. A++++, will definitely be visitng Kafene's next time I'm over Enmore way.
