What a fun place to go. I love the whole taking your shoes off experience. Reminds me of the izakaya's (pubs) in Japan. I love the concept of ordering lost of little plates.
This place is the ultimate venue, it is the best restaurant in the world. The most authentic Japanese food outside of Japan, open microphone karaoke with a great list of songs, sake, laid back atmosphere, ultra-cheap but brilliantly tasty and satisfying banquets, great deserts and oh what can I say? I had my bucks night here and go again whenever I can. The place rocks, it's brilliant, I love it.
Organised a party with a friend of mine and came here with a group of 24. Our bellies were totally stuffed after $25 banquet menu. Authentic and great value for money. Thought I've been teleport across to Japan the moment I stepped into the restaurant due to its traditional ambience and surroundings. Excellent service too, the waitress was super organised and attentive. This is now one of my favorites
Found this place accidentally while wandering around Kings Cross with my partner.
We totally did not expect the layout of the restaurant which we both agreed was fabulous. The sunken tables and having to take off your shoes adds an element of fun to the restaurant.
The menu did not disappoint us. We ordered the ginger pork set and the grilled cheese chicken as mains. The service was laid back and the food came out quickly and fresh. The ginger pork was excellent and so was the grilled cheese chicken. What could be better than putting cheese on things?
The entire experience was pleasant and delicious and I will definitely be coming back to this place.
We dropped in for a pre-theatre dinner and were served promptly and professionally. There were no time issues once staff were aware of our time frame. The food was excellent. $28 per head including beer and wine and more food than we could stomach. The okonomiyaki was delicious and the sashimi was first class. Sunken tables and shoes-off added to the atmosphere. We will most certainly be back.
I call this place Japanese fast food. I don't mean it in a bad way, just that its so succulent and kind of 'simple'. ie its not fancy shmancy Japanese food that looks particularly elegant but rather it is full of flavour, provides generous portions and caters to our western palate which seems to need a lot of stimulation.
Tried the ox tongue there the other week for the first time and it was lovely. Kind of like beef but a bit more chewy and very salty. Perhaps, not for everyone but being a meat lover it really hit my savoury spot. I haven't had one thing which I haven't enjoyed here. Particularly the (god I forget whats its called.) beef and veggies on a hot plate and the okonomiyaki (savoury pancake).
The atmosphere is relaxed and lively. The service is warm and obliging. As a local, easy and great value dinner this has got to rate as one of my favourites.
Recommend you visit Ju Ju in a large group. Sharing meals is great fun here and karaoke is just what you would love after a few drinks and a hearty meal. Food is really good, specially the hot pot, which you can cook at the table. Remember to wear comfortable clothes cos you have to sit on the floor and eat.
I've been here a few times with large groups of friends and Ju Ju has never failed to please. I love the traditional Japanese setup of the restaurant, but it was a little annoying having to take off your shoes and then put them back on again to go to the bathroom.
The food was fresh and the serving sizes, generous. Be sure to look through the entire menu before making your choices though because even some normal dishes are quite expensive (like the vegetable tempura). Reasons to go would definitely include the wonderful variety of exotic Japnese food on offer and a team of helpful and cheerful staff that will help make your stay even more enjoyable.
Was here as a group of 4 the other week and really enjoyed myself. I love the sunken tables, although the fact that we had to take off our shoes was a bit weird for me. We had the soft shell crab salad, spider rolls (best I've ever had) and the sukiyaki. I was looking at the dishes arriving at the other tables and will definitely be back to sample the rest of the menu.
Its a bit of Seinfeld "No Soup for You' If you don't adhere to a few simple etiquette rules, like book in advance, so you know what days they are open (or you don’t have to wait for ages for a table) and let your fellow diners know you have to take your shoes off, so they make sure their socks are clean (no smelly feet, please). But I do LOVE how they sunken tables, it adds to the atmosphere, I Love how all their staff are at least ½ Japanese (so you may have to repeat things or get them to repeat, But again it adds to the charm and authenticity).
On to the basics, I have been here a few times and the food is good and the choice is great and its a fun place, better to eat here in groups, it can get a bit noisy but kick back have a drink and just enjoy!
