I love this place. The decor alone is worth the visit to this restaurant, especially the harry potter wallpaper in the toilets. The food is yum, the service great.
I love bringing my friends to this restaurant.
Came across this restaurant by accident. I was amazed by the way the restaurant was decorated and the food was good. The owner was not there and my husband and I enjoyed the place so much that we took our daughter and grand-daughter there for the experience. My husband went to give the young waitress a tip and the senior staff snatched it from him before the waitress could take it.
The third time I booked to take a group of 20 people, my dealings with the senior staff were nothing but difficult. I have never come across such a rude. Unaccommodating person in all my life. Someone should tell him he needs to do a course in hospitality. Shame, as I would like to take more friends there.
This was a take away order. I should have known by the disinterested staff member who took my call that this wasn't going to be a success. My partner went and collected our order and I couldn't believe what he came back with. Actually, I couldn't believe a restaurant would actually allow this food to come out of their premises.
One of the mains was leaking out of it's packaging so oily residue had seeped onto everything else making a less than ideal start to the meal. My partner had vegetable samosas for entree. Two rather small pieces but he said they were okay. It was the mains that were terrible. The butter chicken was oily with no hint of creaminess about it at all.
To add insult to injury, the meat itself was far from tender. The Lamb Sagwala was inedible. It looked like something you'd keep in a mechanic's garage. Strange green chunks of meat (?) in what looked like black oil. No indication that yoghurt had been added at all. I sniffed it and then threw it out. The naan bread and rice were okay but overall it was an awful meal. I should have taken it back but being a Sunday evening it was all too much to think about.
BTW, my service score is based on the customer service skills of the person who took my phone order, the ambience I really don't know about but I have my doubts.
Jinnah's is a bit of a novelty for its decor and extensive menu but that's about it.
For entrees, we had the Special Onion Bhaji, Bengan Pakora, and Seekh Kebab. The kebab was a bit dry and over cooked, the Bengan Pakora was good but the Onion Bhaji was hardly special.
For mains we had the Aloo Jeera which is like a potato curry, the Lamb Roghan Josh, and King Prawn Masala. These were accompanied with rice and garlic naan.
The mains weren't too bad. The lamb was particularly good and full of flavour with plenty of meat though there were only 5 prawns in the prawn masala which is a disappointing considering the price. Garlic naan was nice and garlicky.
The service was a bit ordinary and whilst admittedly there were 2 large groups that seemed to arrive at once and caused the 2 waitresses to be flat out, I had to get up and ask for the bill as I couldn't capture their attention. Its very loud and colourful inside with a peculiar style of decor, if you know how a truck in Pakistan looks all prettied up, then you'll know what I mean.
Although I walked out feeling very full, I couldn't help but feel a little non-plussed for some reason.
There was only one table sitting inside when we went to pick up the order. We had takeaway, an entree, a beef dish and a chicken dish. The entree was hard as rock and we could not bite into it, we had to go all the way back to the restaurant, and received a substitute, also tasteless and dry.
They put a ridiculous amount of sauce in comparison to meat for the curries, it was leaking. The curry was very very oily, both were just soggy. We were still hungry after and had to buy takeaway dinner elsewhere.
Jinnah's offers Pakistani cuisine, a little different from Indian. The decor is very interesting and worth a visit to see all the celebrities that have dined with the owner over the years. Service is excellent. The restaurant is BYO. It is on the first floor though, so you do need to be able to manage the stairs, although they also offer street level dining outside.
I have dined here several times. Unfortunately, the quality of the food last time was not the same standard as previously. Everything came all at once after a long wait. Despite asking for the blaring TV next to us to be turned down a little, nothing was done.
The menu was off putting. The menu format is bad it's a piece of newspaper and not professional. The staff was rude and hurried us in and out very quickly. He had a young girl on her hands and knees sweeping the floor with a dustpan and brush which I consider disrespectful. As soon as we had finished our starter our main was in front of us. He was rude and grumpy to us. All these pictures on the wall were off putting. I'd never go again. Very disappointing.
We have been to Jinnah's twice. The menu is extensive and they do offer something for everyone. The prices are not very cheap though. The standard dishes like butter chicken and naan bread were good. The thing that has put us off Jinnah is the senior staff. He has his picture plastered all over the place and seems like a jovial guy. When he emerges from the back, he turns out to be a pretty rude guy in a dirty uniform.
He was instructing the waiters to strip the tables and leave dirty tablecloths on the floor whilst there were still customers in the restaurant. When we asked to take the leftovers home, we were given plastic boxes and told that they do not pack the doggie bags! We have to do so ourselves, and the senior staff was quite aggressive about this.
We will not be going back, purely due to the senior staff's lack of service and grumpy attitude.
Went for a drive to try this restaurant as a Food Safari follower and seeing the good reviews on this website and on SMH. It got off to a good start, it was fairly busy (maybe a bit more than half full), interesting ambience and menu (which was perhaps too long), attentive service but when the food arrived we were so disappointed.
We ordered the Seekh kebabs (which were fine) and sizzling prawns to start. The prawns were small, dry and didn't have a fresh taste (plus there were only 4 when the menu said 5, but we weren't about to say anything). For mains we had vegetarian curry (which I thought had an unusual sour kind of taste) and the paya (beef shank) which the SMH review mentioned. The paya turned out to be just curry sauce with bones and a few bits of soft cartilage - not a single piece of meat -for a dish over $20, it was terrible value. We will never return.
