I go to Java at least 3 times per week. I tried almost everything there. I suggest you try gado gado, beef rendang, Salad (I could not remember what they called it ), and Chapchai. I suggest if you go there first time you should try NasiRames so you can try different food. They also offer a lunch deal so, if you go there on Mon-Fri, you will get some discount on lunch items (11-3 pm). I think the fried chicken is a bit dry sometimes. The fish in banana leaves is pretty good but it's not very good value for money because you get like 4 small pieces. The dessert is really impressive, number 7 on the list is my favorite.
Been coming to this little place for years before it became as popular as it is now. Such good food at fantastic prices. Beef Randang and Bali Style BBQ chicken and Fish in Banana Leaves. Yummy! Oh....try the Ikan Bilis.
The best Indonesian Food in Sydney. It offers traditional as well as modern Indonesian cuisines. We tried 3 dishes: Ayam Goreng Sereh (the best), Terong Balado, Pepes Ikan. For dessert, we had Durian Ice Cream, $6 a scoop but you will not be disappointed!
Love this place! Simple decor but food is authentic and home-style. Always popular too! Portions are generous hence slightly higher prices. Try the ayam panggang and other home favourites like bean sprouts with salted fish. I enjoyed the Indonesian style jasmine tea as well; Very different from Chinese or Japanese green tea. Cash only.
A good authentic reasonably priced Indonesian restaurant, deep fried eggplant in sweet soy sauce is good, rendang is ok, some dishes better than others. Not a place for a romantic night out , cramped seating on busy nights but the food is worth a visit.
One of my favourite Indonesian restaurants in Sydney. It is a small restaurant, so sometimes you may have to wait. The Ayam Bakar Bumbu Bali is to die for.
We love the rendang. It is so good that they redefine the dish here, IMHO. We also love the kangkung cah terasi. However, they are sometimes a little inconsistent. They sometimes forget to spice the rendang and the chicken is occasionally overcooked. The chicken curry and some of the other dishes are dreadful.
Update: The rendang has really gone downhill but the staff won't admit it. There has been a real reduction in the intensity of flavours we have come to expect from Java's take on this dish (which we once adored). Perhaps they are watering it down to please their expanded customer base - who knows? All good things come to an end one day, I suppose.
On a more positive note, my all-time favourite, the opor ayam, has come out much better and has been consistently good of late. All is not lost. And the durian ice cream is suitably intense so much so that my wife will not let me ride home in the car without winding the window down!
Fantastic, we stumbled upon this gem purely by accident and we were definitely not disappointed, the food was great, the place is a little small and does get a little noisy, but the service is great and the food brought out fast. The only draw back is it is cash only, be sure to book on a weekend if you want a table. The waiters and staff are friendly. Definitely well worth a visit.
Good food. The ayam sereh (fried chicken with lemongrass and tomato salsa) fantastic. Kankung a bit hot but good flavour. Beef Rendang is quite authentic. All the other dishes were good. Deep fried seafood delicious. We went there about 2 years ago and was disappointed but the place is completely changed now. Even the decor has been spruced up. Service can be quite slow though.
A very small restaurant and the back part still looks like a canteen but the front part of the restaurant is decent. Very cramped though so your fellow diners are invading your private space. Not a place for a romantic night out but I guess the food is what really counts so well done. Will be back for sure.
