Ate here on a suprisingly quiet thurs night. The service was impeccable throughout. Started with hot rolls and an amuse bouche of mushroom soup which was delicious. I then had a seared tuna entree and roasted lamb main. They were cooked well and to order, and were very tasty.
The portions are quite small for the price, which pulled back their value rating a point but there is no doubting the quality. Even with the Ent Card came to over $500 for four adults and one child, so won't be a regular venue but would certainly go back for a special night.
A great Modern Australian food that make all of us proud to live here. We were 18 for a birthday. Fantastic, the mushroom and chestnut soup served in a shot for starter. I shared my dishes with my wife and all were extremely good. I still remember the sauce of the duck breast. The house wine was above the expectation. Service is warm, efficient and discreet. A place to recommend and come back.
Visited for a birthday dinner with five others. Very cosy ambience and the seats are very comfortable. We were all served an amuse bouche of onion soup served in a shot glass. Homemade bread rolls were served v hot to touch with an accompaniment of black olives and butter.
I didn't order an entree but the duck entree looked v small for its price. The four zucchini flowers stuffed with feta were pronounced delicious. For mains, ordered the venison (medium) with chocolate and chili sauce. Beautifully presented, however, some of the venison was cooked rare-ish for my liking. We also ordered sides of green beans and tomato salad.
For dessert, had the pannacotta with gingered rhubarb on the side and coconut biscuits. Others had the warm Belgium chocolate tart with clotted cream on the side. Had some of both, chocolate tart very rich and enough for two to share.
Luckily we were not charged the $7 per person corkage as we only brought along one bottle and ordered another from the wine list. The corkage charge was mentioned by the waitperson as we sat down so it was no surprise.
The restaurant was accommodating as we ordered sambucca and frangelico with our coffees and petit fours. As there were only three tables for a midweek, service was shared between two wait persons who were both professional and discreet.
Luckily we were not charged the $7 per person corkage as we only brought along one bottle and ordered another from the wine list. This would be a place to go on special occasions though there is an advertised lunch special. I understand Jaspers has had two changes of ownership in the last 12 months so it will be interesting to see whether there are any more changes in the foreseeable future.
I also went to Jaspers for my birthday. For years I’d been wanting to try this restaurant, but for some reason had always put it off. Fortunately, we didn’t this time, as my family and I came away very impressed, having found a new favourite.
A great little appetiser of creamy celery soup did what appetisers should do and whet our appetites. My entrée of duck breast was possibly the best duck I’ve ever had, moist, with a small amount of fat, good skin and a really light-but-true taste. The accompanying sauce of pureed walnuts was inspired. Other highlights from the table were the special of Pacific oysters done three separate ways and the scallops in a coconut and kaffir lime soup. Full marks.
For mains, my father and I shared the wagyu beef fillet for two, a Chateaubriand, style piece of exceptional meat with a light stock/wine reduction, green beans and some truly special truffled mash, which included some actual truffle shavings. Thank goodness I’d brought an excellent red to accompany it. On that note, I really appreciate Jaspers’ BYO option, their wine list is also very good in its range and pricing, the Moët by the glass is very reasonable, if that’s your bag.
My mother’s venison with chocolate sauce was by all reports wonderful. The chocolate was naturally bitter and there was a hint of chilli to lift it. Chocolate carried over to dessert in the form of a tart, which was great. Crispy pastry surrounded warm, only just set dark chocolate. Great clotted cream ice cream on the side. The orange cheesecake is also thoroughly recommended.
Despite our choices (the wagyu was $120 for two) and drinking some wine from the list, the bill was very reasonable. The atmosphere was great, lovely décor, plush, comfortable seats (far too uncommon in Sydney restaurants), excellent lighting and just a general warm feeling from the staff. We’re looking forward to going back.
We went to Jaspers for my birthday and had a perfect evening there. The cottage is beautifully renovated and decorated, stuff are very attentive, but not intrusive, food was delicious. I had cured salmon with salmon roe and very tasty sauce for an entree and mushroom pie full of flavour, my husband had scallops in coconut sauce and delicious steak with porcini crust for main and we shared banana mousse for dessert.. all and all - great evening. Will definitelly go back.
We went to Jaspers on Mother's Day. The restaurant was full and buzzing and they had put on a special menu for the day. We really were very pleasantly surprised with both the food and the service as the restaurant was very busy.
The food is not trying to be anything other than delicious and fresh. We had the lamb which was really superb and finished off with the most amazing panacotta. The service was very attentive but not overbearing and the general ambience was cosy and relaxed. A great day out.
Took a business lunch party there recently. A wonderful old style established cottage restaurant superbly renovated with an exciting new chef and charming attentive staff, look out for a lovely wait person (kerry I think her name is), very laid back non pushy and intent in making your visit enjoyable, food on offer is a bewildering journey of an interesting, different exciting mix of old standard good food. Yeah...about time!
