Went here on New Years Eve and loved it, found that there was plenty of food and struggled to finish everything ordering the set menu. Quite a few things I'd never had before. Very good.

This place is really quite good for a "little bit fancy" of a night. Great food, very relaxed. We'd head here for some yum aussianese.

Really pleasant surprise at this place. We love Japanese but if you don't, don't worry as it's more modern Australian with a hint of Japanese than the other way around.
The food was cooked to perfection - scallops the best I've had in a long while. Only reason I don't give it a 10 is because it's not as light as I like food (ie, potatoes and meat vs sashimi) ...though they did sell that too but we had the set menu (ie, personal preference not any fault of the restaurant itself). Really liked the taste sensation of the eggplant with ginger and parma ham, even if it were powdered ginger rather than fresh (a little surprised by that given the fresh quality of everything else, but it could have been deliberate to avoid it being so overpowering?).
The [super large] olives and olive oil were top quality too - makes a change from the run-of-the-mill that you get in most restaurants (it's the little things that count).
Service friendly and not OTT but had to ask for wine to be topped up twice (maybe we just drink too quickly). That said, for a Monday night, it was pretty full.
Ambience is brasserie style - not overdressed, quite casual and buzzy with the right crowd. It would be perfect for a small groups of friends out for a decent bite and a good chat in a casual setting.
Definitely worth a go -- I'd go so far to say it's the best quality food in N Bay. Looking forward to trying some other dishes again soon.
Thanks guys :)
PS: agree with @markpod - BYO in N Bay is a must! Too many folk with wine cellars full of decent wine and a wallet to pay for decent food to match it. Don't put them off...

We had an amazing dinner at this restaurant. The food was scrumptious, the environment very enjoyable and the service was second to nothing. We already booked the next dinner to take advantage of their 3rd anniversary offer.

Do not go to this restaurant if you look for quantity. This place is to enjoy dishes made with gusto and time taken in presentation. Fresh ingredients always make the experience that Hiro creates a special one.

When we go to this restaurant, we always order the tasting menu - depending on which month of the year you go, you get different things... sometimes the plates just keep coming & it's great value for money! sometimes it's just so-so. The food's delicately prepared & plated and has a variety of taste to it.

Second back and I am a convert. The dishes are small but so tasty. People who want to stuff themselves silly should go to a cheap buffet. This is more like a pick your own degustation! My only complaint is no byo fri - sunday, come on guys, if you want to make a killing on the wine people will stay away or if you want to force us to purchase the wine then make it a bigger selection and more reasonable prices. Cheers!

Wasn't sure what to expect from a Japanese/Spanish restaurant when we booked for our girls night out recently, but having now been, let me explain. Japaz is mainly Spanish food cooked by very talented Japanese chefs who add some Asian twists to some of the dishes. Standouts were the calamari and the crispy chicken (the skin was amazing). They offer great specials too.
We were delighted by the tastes created by these guys.
The restaurant is very attractive from both outside and in and spills out onto the street with big open windows. Got to love the fact that they were donating a percentage of the bill to QLD flood victims through February. Got to also love that we were sharing the space with Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Fitzsimmons plus Georgie Gardner and her other half. Fitzsimmons was clearly a regular as he was later seen chatting with the chef so that has to be a pretty good recommendation.

Excellent food at a very reasonable price! My husband and I had a fantastic night at Japaz, the waiter was extremely accommodating, the food was terrific, had the $45 tapas menu, and the ambience was just right. A great restaurant in Neutral Bay, we'll be back!

I'm not sure exactly what fusion these people were actually trying to achieve. You'd think that Japanese and Spanish would lend themselves to give thousands of easy flavour combinations.
Not so here. What super bland rubbish we were served here. I guess it's fine for your normal zimmer frame wielding, Chardonnay guzzling divorcee that has no taste buds left but uttlerly disappointing to anyone who has been over the Harbour Bridge.
