1st time here since change of ownership, walked in for a Sat lunch and had no problem getting seated and even requested the scallop taster plate from the dinner menu for lunch which they were more than happy to see if chef was ok with delivering, he was, and they were cooked perfectly.
Have to say very very good experience. All the meals we ordered were well priced for the quality of food, great service and great location - even more so on a sunny day(although parking can be an issue). Will definitely be back.
P.S. At the end of our meal we were told that the menu was only 7 days old and they wanted our feed back and suggestions, which they listened to openly.
I really liked Jamils the first time I went there but on the second time when it became obvious that some of the patrons were a tad drunk. Conflict arose and the management was pathetic in terms of handling the situation.
Our table was harassed by an exhibitionist couple drinking there while we were eating our 3 course meal. The couple were rude, abusive and displaying disgusting behaviour and while we would have been happy to be moved away from them this was not what happened. Instead of throwing this couple out, Jamils management made excuses for them (obviously because the staff knew the couple personally).
Not much came from dining at Jamils, the food was nice. Most of the staff were ok, but the manager was a pitiful excuse of a man and I would suggest staying away from Jamils until the management is replaced.
We have always liked the setting of Will & Toby's and obviously now Jamils. We stopped eating at Will & Toby's as the service was so bad, so we were so pleased when it changed hands. Unfortunately, the waiting staff here still seem to be awful, arguing with you and questionning your judgement. It seems to take approx 20 minutes even to get a coffee and that's when the restaurant is pretty empty. We gave it a chance, but there are so many restaurants in Manly where you don't have to put up with bad waiting staff, so we will never return.
Contrary to the other review, I found Jamil's to be a huge step up.
The scallops were seared to perfection, even if the accompanying flavours were a trifle bland. My main course of Eye Fillet was perfectly accompanied by Truffled Mash, a dish not often seen on the northern beaches, but one which should be on every menu on earth in my opinion.
What is really setting Jamil's apart is the service. The staff are friendly, welcoming, knowledgable and able to be available without seeming to be over your shoulder at all times.
I highly reccommend a visit, especially if you had been disappointed.
We weren't particularly impressed with this restaurant, which has replaced Will & Toby's. The starter, a mezze platter was pleasant enough, and the portion size was more than sufficient for the two of us. The beef fillet was good enough, but more well-done than the requested medium.
The fish and chips was very average, with neither the fish nor the chips achieving much. Residual scales on the fish weren't that great either. Side salad of rocket, cheese and pears was so-so. Too bad. It's a great location but the menu selection is limited and fairly pricey. The wine list is decent, the cocktails very expensive.
