After reading reviews of this place, I thought I'd elaborate on my experience. First thing to remember, it's a bar not a club don't be too upset when you realize there's no dancing. Went twice in the one night, No trouble getting in though I saw people rejected for not being on the "guest list". Just have a clean look, wear a collared shirt and jeans or pants with nice shoes, and it helps if you have a good looking girl with you.

Drinks are alright but pricey, service is good but seriously don't waste your time here. You will find a few glamors inside but there is nowhere to talk and for a place that's so selective, there's way to many people inside to move. For the ladies if stockbrokers are your thing go ahead.

Nice design but that's about all, I left with my friends after an hour. If you're looking for a fun time, don't come here, if posing in a corner is your thing you'll have a good night.

The Ivy Bar is not bad bar but I think people at the door should have some manners and look more elegant, they are not for The Ivy bar staff. Bar is nice but staff is 3rd class.

I need to let you all know that the Ivy is the worst place to be ! After calling up so many times, I wanted to have a guest list for a Saturday night. However, I was told by management and staff that there were no guest lists on a Saturday night, mind you I would have paid for mine if I had to ! They told us that we just turn up on the night and everything should be fine.

So we turn up on the night and to our surprise there is a man standing at the front and asking whether or not we are on the guest list. After stating to him that we had called several times to get a guest list, everyone had told us there was none and the manager had also showed us around where we could have some drinks.

The man with his snobbish attitude was very rude to us after this point, and so we asked for management. He walked over to my friends and I, examined them like as if they were doing something completely wrong, and told us if we didn't fix some of our dress issues, he would not even consider calling down management.

So we left because the Ivy is not worth all the hassle it puts itself up to be. So unless you are tall blonde and beautiful, or whatever the guy at the front fancies.. then chances are you'd be asked whether or not you are on a guest list that probably does not exist.

Went here for the first time the other night. The door woman told my friends and I to go in for no apparent reason, so skipping the queue was great! The atmosphere was really fun, although the crowd was a bit mixed, mostly younger girls and some older guys, a couple of guys in their 60s! Drinks very overpriced, shots were generally $10.

DJ was good and tons of people dancing. I loved the decor though the bathrooms were cramped, and people smoking got annoying especially when on the dance floor. Service was friendly. I'd go there again but only if I had money to burn.

First time visit on the weekend...line moved quickly and door staff were friendly but (as to be expected) many prententious wannabe people to be seen inside. Not a big fan of this kinda vibe. Am really over the Sydney club scene overall...find it stifling and fake.

Hi, Sorry for my english mistakes in advance..I think Ivy is a great place to go. Compare to other clubs it is pretty nice and crowd is really good. For those who can't get inside I think it was their own problem, because I've been going there on fridays and saturdays at 10, 11 , 12 and even if the queue is big, I always got inside. The price of drinks is average.

Ivy has some similarities with Hugos and Trademark, which iIalso find very good and nice place to go. The one thing which I don't enjoy very much is music, it is kinda old school, at least when I've been there, Also little bit annoying that there hasn't actual dance floor, people dance on the 2nd floor near bar but it is quite small. Other things are excellent. I'd agree to the guy before, that Sydney needs more places like this.

If it's great food, cocktails, service and atmosphere you want, then this is the place for you!! The decor and ambience is exceptional. Bar service in my experience is first class. I've visited this establishment now on quite a few occasions and can honestly say I am yet to be disappointed.

Crowded on the weeekends. This would be suggestive of it's popularity. Did I hear you guys complain about the cost of food and drinks here? It may be priced on the higher end of the scale, and for that you do indulge in the finest the hospitality industry has to offer. If it's cheap grub you prefer, the Royal George may be more your style.

A classy place, beautiful people, great vibe and mixed musical genre make for a night out to remember. Pretentious? Says who?

Been to the Ivy twice recently. First time was good, drinks were good but pricey, the place looks fantastic has a good atmosphere. Music was good, they did a rock mix with dance songs which I really liked, everyone had a good time.

Second time I went for my birthday and was lucky I got ushered straight in past the queue! ( we were a big group of girls all dressed up ), we had to later rescue some of our guy friends that couldn't get in outside but they were pretty good about it. Music wasn't as good this time but after a few drinks it didn't matter. Would go back, it's at least worth a look to see if it's your thing.

I previously rated this venue fairly hard; however I had a great experience on Friday afternoon and early evening. From having a very average experience last time I went, the second time was more pleasant and friendly. I had some early drinks with some clients and then asked if we could get something to eat and were moved to another floor in the building. I can now see that this place is coming together with what they initially had in mind and that was to have a large venue and also keep you entertained while you are enjoying yourself.

We had our own waiter and nothing was an issue, they had run out of wine that we had selected and quickly went off to get more without any fuss. I also got some complimentary drinks while we waited for our drinks. One of the party smoke so it was easy for him to move outside as the middle of the building is open, it didn’t bother me but he did make a comment that he didn’t have to run downstairs or in the leppers corner. Impressed, now we have to wait for the rest of the joint to be finished. By the way they took an enquiry from a fellow guest to have their Christmas party there for 2008. This joint is amazing.

People, people, if you want a fun night out, this is definitely NOT the place to go. I’m from Europe and I have “been around”, so to speak. After passing by the place a couple of times, witnessing the crowd outside that seemed so (over) eager to make it in to this place, I thought I’d give it a go to find out what the fuss was all about.

As I knew beforehand what kind of place it was I put on my “hip” outfit (feeling a bit like a dork). The lady with the shiny tights at the gate deemed my appearance hip enough and let me pass (the people in front of me were obviously not hip enough, since she lied to them about a private function and bitched about a guest list that they weren’t on [and certainly not me]. When I got in, I saw lots and lots of.......dorks.

People who had no obvious thing about them but who seemed soooo desperate to LOOK like they were something. Most of them looked like they worked as shop attendants in fashion stores (which probably was true in many cases). It seldom happens that I want to leave a place early, but this place was just so extremely boring and I just bared to hang around because of the alcohol, that by the way was heavily over priced and nothing in particular.

I don’t know, it seems that some places in Sydney just try a little too hard to appear as hip and trendy, just like they have read about NY, London and Paris (or Stockholm) in a magazine or something and think they can copy it by being “selective” about the people they let in. The great thing about Australia (and Sydney) is that people in general are so fun, open and friendly. But the model for this place seems to be to skim all that away and create this incredibly boring and fake atmosphere where nobodies just walk around and try to look like they are somebodies.

Don’t get me wrong here, I’m a quite successful person myself, but this place is just filled with folks that so desperately want to look successful. You guys that didn’t make it in here. Don’t worry about it. You didn’t miss out on a thing. Go somewhere else, there are many great places in this city where you can actually have a good time.

I’m not going to be fooled again and risk my precious spare time to go to one of these places “where you want to be seen”, I actually felt embarrassed to be seen here...
