Dropped in here on the way to the cinema. If you want a quick Italian meal this is it. They can do Risotto in a flash. Must pre cook the rice I suppose. I concur with the other comments about the space. You are packed like a sardine and continually get bumped but I suppose thats the deal here. Get em in and get em out..fast. The food is OK for the price but its not really a restaurant. More like a takeaway with a sit down option.
I’ve never eaten a meal wedged so tightly in-between my table and chair that I got indigestion before but I understand why this place gets packed.
It's quick, cheap, tasty, loud and bloody uncomfortable! My partner had the bolognaise, I had the chicken with peppercorn and my friend had a vegetarian dish, all were huge, pretty tasty and even more so when we mixed the chicken dish with the vegetarian dish ;)
We refer to this place as “the table nazi’s” because the staff watch you like hawks and snatch tables away the second you are done, trying to (literally) squash another few customers in, even when the place is half empty, the amount of tables they have jammed in here is really ridiculous and the telling off from the staff if you try and sit at a table bigger then you need is rude, especially when the table is jammed against a wall so half the seats can’t be used anyway.
If you want to eat here you will have to get used to having people swing their elbows over your table as they walk past, be asked at least 3 or 4 times by people around you if you have any room to move as they can’t and feeling guilty if you stay for more than a minute after you have finished your meal as the staff start to eye off your table. I’ve found commercial fast food joints with a nicer atmosphere then this place.
We weren’t expecting an intimate dining experience, the food is great and cheap but what’s the point when you walk away with bruises on your arms from getting knocked every time anyone behind, in front or next to you wants to move, or breath? Remove a table or two and it would be a much nicer experience. We will only be returning for takeaway, but I suppose that’s the point.
My partner and I went there recently for dinner and both had just a regular-sized plain tomato sauce with penne. The tomato sauce wasn't particularly tasty but was fine, but for over $25 for the pastas and two drinks we could have gone out for Thai down the street in a much nicer atmosphere. If the fluorescent lighting hadn't made it feel like a McDonalds and the woman behind the counter wasn't singing along loudly and badly to the Celine Dion's songs playing during our meal, it would also have made for a nicer experience!
However, it may be unfair to presume that all of their food would be average as we did choose the least exciting dish on the menu. I have heard from others that their pastas are good.
I've dined here twice now. Well it doesn't feel like "dining" in the proper sense, more like squishing over on one of the tables on the side, watching the guys cook up the food on the other side and wolfing it down when it comes (piping hot) to you. It's fast and fun, not expensive and tastes great. Try it, you won't regret it.
Very quick and easy food. It's pretty good for one of those nights when you can't be bothered to cook. Lots of people. I like it, but it's not really a place I'd deliberately go out for.
What a fantastic concept, Italian food served in the same fashion as a noodle house (choose your pasta, then your sauce). This place is usually packed so took the remaining two seats.
Ordered Bolognaise ($10) and Lasagna ($14) and a side of chips (not really needed). The only criticism I would have is the auto-chicken salting of the chips which as a rule I hate. Sauces on both pasta were rich and flavourful. In fact you would struggle to find a better bolognaise sauce anywhere.
Service was very friendly, and better than you would expect from a venue of this price range. Definitely recommended, and will return again.
The Italian Bowl is our newest favourite restaurant. The prices are exceptionally good and the quality of food is fantastic and traditional Italian tastes. The service is fantastic and atmosphere is great. The chefs cook in front of you while you wait. They sing, dance and crack jokes. The wait is not long even for the amount of people they serve as it's really busy, take away and eat in.
