I went to this restaurant with my partner on Wednesday Night, and I must say I was very disappointed. As soon as I entered the restaurant I could smell the incense sticks, it was way too strong. The decor was just horrible, pink chairs and tables, are you serious? The menus were in clear folders, very unprofessional.
As for the service, this was obviously a family run business which is a good thing and they were very friendly. However, they were very unprofessional, carrying the foods and drinks in their hands and not trays. Also, the lady was trying very hard to sell dessert to us, how annoying.
As for the food, I am 100% Indian and I know how Indian food tastes like. They might be able to fool Australians with what they are selling but definitely not me. The mango lassi tasted like watered milk, and I could not taste the mango, it has traditionally got a strong mango flavour and is quite thick. The chicken tikka was fine. However, in the mains the chicken chennai was the most disappointing.
It tasted like watery thai chicken, nothing even close to south indian cuisine. I must admit the cheese naan was good. I will never go back here.
Great food and great service. We had a very enjoyable night. Went with 4 others and we tried all sorts of different dishes. The specials were yummy, yummy. Will definitely go back.
Mmm! The food was just delicious! I had aloo kulcha, saffron rice, sheekh kebabs, pappadums with mint sauce and many more. They were all so tasty and well made. The setting is cozy and quiet with a function room upstairs. The waiters were also very nice and friendly. I can't wait to try the whole menu if I can because it is value for money.
We have had take-aways 3 times now from Indian Star and on all 3 occasions we can honestly say that the food has been outstanding! On 2 occasions where we collected the food from them they have offered to wait outside their restaurant and deliver the takeouts while we waited outside (parking in Epping on weekend evenings is a nightmare!).
Highly recommend their Meat Samosas, Butter/Korma dishes and their Naan breads and we can't wait to try the rest of their excellent menu... YUMMY!!!!
I went here for a take away on a sunday night. The food was pretty good, the Cheese Naan was sooooooo good.. however, the dish I had was a little flavourless and I found a chunk of some herb (I think it was ginger) which I bit into and that put me off the rest of the meal. I also found a couple of bay leaves which I had to scoop out myself.
I was pretty impressed with the service, it took, perhaps, 7 minutes from ordering to my meal being ready. Even though I got a 10% discount on my take away it still ended up costing nearly $20 for 1 vegetarian dish, 1 large rice and a cheese naan. A little expensive for a vegetarian dish I thought.
Quiet little restaurant with good quality food and friendly service. Love the variety of dishes on offer, going beyond the standard Indian fare and offering some Singaporean fusion. We picked randomly from the menu, and everything presented was impressive. The naan bread is especially nice, I love the cheese naan! I can definitely see why this place has been around for so long, it's a solid performer everytime.
Had an excellent meal. Higly recommend their board specials of Satay Chicken which was so delicious - can see it was freshly done with crunchy peanuts - not the bottled sauce. Also tried their Baliness lamb shanks which was to die for - the meat was so tender. The place was crowded on a Saturday night with a function upstairs as well. Service was good and efficient. Will return to try their other tantalising Singapore/Indian fusion dishes.
My partner and I both ended up ill after a pretty mediocre tasting meal, including pappadams out of a packet, and when they offered more rice they charged it as extra. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the wait staff just wandered back and forth which was a bit off-putting. It's quite expensive too.
The food here is the best! The naan bread alone is to die for. They cook each naan specially to you order, so they hit the table piping hot. But for this attention to detail - you have to wait. This is not a place to eat if you are in a hurry. The two draw backs are 1. the service is kind but amateurish and 2. You pay for what you get (it isn't cheap). Other reviews are wrong - it is licensed, although they don't neccesarily have what's on the drinks menu (once they didn't have any VB or Tooheys but they went to the bottle shop and got us some). But if you're a foodie and quality of food is your bottom line - then try this restaurant! And order the Indian Star platter - yes it's expensive, but it is also really really good!
A very nice Indian restaurant. The owners are always very friendly and the service is rarely slack. The food is always great and you never have to wait too long for food. I am a regular customer!
