Tempted by reviews by Joann Savill, we ventured to this little piece of Peru in Enmore. The Pisco cocktail was good and everything from there was downhill. The goat stew had no taste and the quinnoa was bland, Eggplant was sad looking with pasta sauce all over it.
The sangria was not up to the mark and there were no desserts as the kitchen closed and we were not informed. Why did we not trust eatability ratings!...
Mediocre, really. I tried this restaurant with some work colleagues and non of us had tried this place before. We heard that Peruvian food is really spicy and being a spicy food lover, I was really looking forward to it.
I had the specials for that night and it was seafood in a 'spicy nut sauce', I only ordered mains as I'm not a big eater. While I was waiting and watching my colleagues have their starters, which was 'ok', I was really getting hungry. Then their mains came, but I still had to wait despite being the first to order.
Then at last my dish came. First thing I realise was that the plate was cold, and as I took my first bite realised that the food was only luke warm. Before getting through half of it, the dish was cold. It was not spicy at all for me and my friend who had the same dish and could not take too spicy, only gave it a 4 out of 10 for spicyness. Overall I was dissapointed with the dish and the rest were not too happy too.
I hope that the management would improve thier standards and keep their dishes as authentic as possible and not try to modify it to suit local taste, cause it will only go wrong.
I recently had dinner at Incas restaurant and I found it to be a wonderful experience, the food was exciting and new, with the variety of food available we found it easier to order several dishes and then all share. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I've heard people tell me to steer clear of this place, but I thought we'd take a chance and try it for ourselves. We were a group of six people who were told to wait outside for 15 minutes whilst they set up our table (yet there were only two other people in the restaurant and many empty tables!) Why we had to wait 15 minutes is a mystery.
We ordered 2 serves of garlic bread but they gave us and charged us for three - horrible stale bread that was rock hard and totally inedible. The waiter said the oven was broken so not to expect anything to be cooked in the oven, however my suspicions from reading previous reviews is that they just couldn't be bothered firing it up. It's no wonder seeing as there was no one else in the restaurant.
We waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our meals to arrive, not worth the wait. Small and overpriced portions, seafood was meant to be grilled but was pan fried. Duck breast was a miniscule serving. The $38 BBQ meat platter consisted of two fatty lamb leg chops and two uninteresting skewers of chicken. A complete rip off.
A woman sat on a stool all night half asleep and didn't even move when I told her there was no toilet paper in the ladies loo - no apology either. How this place has managed to stay in business since 1995 is a total mystery. Not recommended!! I know exactly what Gordon Ramsay would say if he sampled the food here!
Visited Incas to try something new. My mother was visiting from the U.S. so we thought we'd go for something very different. What a mistake. The meat was repulsive and awfully fatty to the point where I was removing bits from my mouth with every mouthful, the menu was overpriced and the waitress ripped us off by overcharging on the bill.
Service was very average at best. Not bad atmosphere, I'll give them that, but I will certainly not be returning to this place again solely on that merit. It's not hard to find better quality food in Enmore for a fairer price.
We went on Easter Saturday for dinner and then when we arrived the restaurant was empty except for two other people. For an entree we had the potato and chicken, which was tasty enough but had obviously been microwaved as it was lukewarm at best. For the main we ordered the meat platter which came without the chorizo it was meant to have (there was a chicken sausage instead), and all of the meat was pan-fried rather than cooked in the advertised way on the bbq.
It was all badly cooked and tasteless. It came with two roast potatoes which had clearly been microwaved as they were lukewarm and soggy on the outside. We had ordered a salad which they forgot and then brought as we were finishing the meat platter which was obviously too late for us to eat with our meal. It was very clear that we were not happy with the meal but the staff made no effort to ask us how it was or even apologise for the salad being late.
They took about 20 minutes to clear our table after the main course, despite the restaurant still being nearly empty (there were two other tables filled by this point). The waiter was at the register chatting to the waitress, kept looking in our direction but chose to continue his conversation rather than clear the table. The main problem seems to be that the staff in this restaurant just don't care.
Obviously they do have a proper oven with which to cook the meat but it's our guess that seeing as it was the Easter weekend they couldn't be bothered firing it up. And there is absolutely no excuse for slow and sloppy service when there are only two tables of customers in the restaurant. I will never go there again.
I think that there's gotta be a mistake with some of the reviews here. I notice that there is another Incan restaurant in a different suburb, perhaps, that's the cause. I've been to the Enmore "Incas" restaurant twice now, once with my partner and the second time just the other week with a friend. Although the place is incredibly tiny, and usually quite full, both times we got in without a booking, and the staff were lovely and accommodating.
The atmosphere is very cosy, its small, not overly lit, has some interesting wall hangings, and has peruvian music or information playing on the tv (which we were seated underneath on the latest visit). The food is delicious. The menu is not hugely extensive, but there are about 5-7 entrees, and enough mains to be one for each meat type (chicken, pork, goat, beef, fish/seafood) plus vegetarian. Its rare that I go to a restaurant and would eat the majority of the menu items, but here the only one I wouldn't have is the goat (personal preference).
I don't like eggplant, but when we shared the 3 meals, each of which had wonderful flavours, my favourite actually ended up being the eggplant. I think that the total ended up being about $40 per person, and that included 2 serves each of the wonderful chicha morada (a non-alcoholic purple maize drink that's delicious, and half the reason for the return trip!). 2 entrees and three mains, and the 3 of us (fairly big eaters) could barely finish the meal.
The staff were very helpful, and not at all obtrusive, and we ended up having the unexpected but quite cute entertainment of one of their toddlers wandering up to our table every so often. We forgot to save room the second visit for dessert (on the blackboard in the centre of the restaurant), but I vaguely remember that the rice pudding was divine.
The food was delicious, I had the Aji De Gallina (potato in a chicken sauce) and the Picante de Mariscos (mixed seafood in a spicy sauce). It is a very small venue (I counted 8 tables) and has a nice atmosphere with what I assume was Peruvian music in the background.
The only thing I would mark it down on, which is quite a small thing, was that it took quite a while for me to get a glass of water. The staff were very accommodating. I would definitely recommend and I would definitely go there again!
When I went there with my friend, we were the only ones there yet food took a while to come out to us. Also some of the food on the menu wasn't available because they hadn't fired up the big oven or something. For me, it felt like they just couldn't be bothered!! Service was poor, food was average at best, a bit pricey, wouldn't come here again. It felt like we weren't good enough for the place.
Syndeymike, well you must of had a good night there, because from the score, I think you're in the minority, there is nothing to exaggerate, I got nothing to gain by saying what I said about this place, it's just my experience.
