We went to the restaurant for a function for 35 on a Sunday and we shared the restaurant with other diners. Overall I was very impressed with the service, food and ambience. The place is well lit , warm as it was a little cold outside and the staff were attentive without over doing it.
The people I was with were southern italian and all yes all commented on the entree, pasta and well made pizza. The entree were all fresh without being overdone and the pasta was a penne arrabiata and a spag with prawns, nice size. I would rate this place as a between a good restaurant and a top end italian, its run by italians and they are locals. They know the fare and the pricing is ok, I accept that if the rents were less the pricing would reflect ...I think this venue is giving Leichhardt a good run for their money...
Great Pizzas and great service, the night we ate here there were only four tables in and its pretty big, open dining room (its was a Tuesday at 7 pm) so it was a liitle lacking in atmosphere. However, the food is great, real authentic italian pizzas and great Tiramisu.
Good honest food sometimes slightly oversalted. Make a great pizza. I have enjoyed going to Il Locale with my family for years and will continue the tradition.
I had a set menu here. The antipasto plate was good. Generous serve. The pasta entre was ok. I had rissotto with my main...bit average. I have had worse and better. I can’t remember what the rest of my meals were. It was ok. I would come back here if it was for another function but not for the food. I know that my review is quite conflicting with most of those on here. Don’t get me wrong, the food wasn’t bad, but I personally didn’t think it was special.
I visited Il Locale last night and was most impressed by how busy it was for a cold Tuesday evening (generally a good sign). The place was buzzing! Decor was appealing, simple, clean and smart with everybody in the restaurant happily chatting away.
We ordered the lobster spaghetti and the scallop risotto, both of which were lovely. Flavoursome, not overcooked and just the right size. We also ordered the garlic pizzette with dips - very tasty! And just the thing to commence a meal.
Service was great; attentive bit not intrusive, so we were able to carry on a conversation without being interrupted every five minutes. Our meals and entree arrived swiftly. Thanks for a lovely dining experience. We will return.
One of the better Italian restaurants in Sydney, far better than any in Leichhardt. It has that 'Italian' atmosphere as well. The waiters are friendly and helpful with menu advice.
We have always enjoyed the specials and the food, and service is always above average. The Pizza are good. Prices are reasonable, the wine list is acceptable.
Fantastic Food. Slow cooked duck melted in my mouth. Desserts absolutely to die for, pricing slightly off putting, and a comforting and pleasant atmosphere.
Food was fine, service attentive and although the noise in the restaurant makes it impossible to talk, that is the ambience of "The Local." The wine list could do with improvement, but corkage at $3.50 per person means you can take a nice bottle of wine and enjoy it. Like we did with a 1997 Tahbilk Marsanne which went crackingly with the Polpi. We'll be back again for sure, although not with the Marsanne as it was our last one.
Update: Haven't been back yet but have updated scoring based on trips to other inner west restaurants.
We were really disappointed with our dining experience recently at this restaurant. Not sure if they have changed chefs - not one of our dishes was nice and the price was over $100 per head. The waiters were running around as if there were emergencies everywhere, when they did serve the food it was thrown down on the table. 2 tables around us sent their food back. We used to love this place, but new chef does not equal good food.
