A favourite restaurant amongst my parents and their friends. Went here Sunday for a lunch and I must say, food was served quickly and service was friendly. Still child friendly area outside since moving to new premises and the pizzas are always fresh and tasty. Pasta also fresh and not too overpriced. Will be back!
We went to Il Goloso - placed our order shortly after arriving at 6pm and by 7.15pm we had not seen a waiter again. On asking where our meal was, we were advised that they had forgotten our order and would get onto it right away. Too late my friends - We will not be attending Il Goloso again.
I've dined at Il Goloso many times. I have never been disappointed. The staff are friendly easy going. Service is usually on the ball and the food is quality at reasonable prices. It's a good place to go with a group of friends or with family and is a casual dining experience. I will definitely be going back again.
There's this veneer of excellence surrounding Sydney's Italian scene. It is as impenetrable as an overly selective virgin, and one that is likely to remain so despite large amounts of BYO wine and a barrage of my most rational (and sometimes desperate) arguments. Not that this has ever stopped me from trying...
Last night, I took 2 fellow foodies in ItalianoRagazzo and Jetski to IL Goloso for pizza that had come highly recommended. First impressions were good as the service was extremely warm and friendly, a real treasure amidst other Italian restaurants in the area.
The menu looked good too. ItalianoRagazzo, whose family hails from Naples, commented on the authenticity of the menu - it didn't look anglo-sised...and I must admit it did look very appetising. This was no more poignant than the time it took for ItalianoRagazzo to decide on whether to order pizza or pasta. In the end he settled for both, ordering a Napoli Pizza and a Spaghetti Carratiere. Jetski and myself finally settled on a salsicce pizza and copious amounts of chinotto.
Cutting straight to the chase, the salsicce pizza was extremely soggy with pools of water lining the bottom of the pizza. The sausage mince was extremely salty and, as Jetski insightfully noted, looked as if it had been defrosted on the pizza in the pizza oven which would explain the unusual amount of juice all over the pizza. 2 words come to mind: soggy biscuit. Highly disappointing.
ItalianoRagazzo's choice seemed a tad better. His Napoli Pizza came with a sprinkling of Kalamatta olives and anchovies. The Kalamatta olives were a bit overpowering and there wasn't anywhere near enough fresh basil on the pizza but it still tasted pretty good. The spaghetti with prosciutto and porcini mushrooms in tomato sauce was pretty good, one of the better offerings in the area.
The only standout was the service. It was difficult to give the staff constructive feedback given their beaming smiles and obvious pride they have in their pizzas. It could very well be that our trip was a once off occurrence but Jetski and I both agree, the salsicce pizza was probably the worst one we've ever eaten.
My wife and I did our ante-natal course in Haberfield and we checked out most of the restaurants in the area. This was the last restaurant we went to and I figure we shouldn't have bothered. Mediocre food combined with poor service created a very average dining experience. Maybe this is why it is the least populated restaurant in Haberfield!
Dinner last night at Il Goloso was lovely. Insalata caprese and goats cheese bruscetta kicked us off nicely. A huge fillet of panfried barramundi with mushrooms and a hearty serve of rocket salad would have been perfect if only a touch less olive oil was used.
My husband is closer to finding Sydney's best margherita pizza after dining at Il Goloso. A crisp, thin, woodfired base topped with bocconcini, fresh toms, and wonderfully fresh oregano and basil found him smiling. And the finale, nutella calzone, well you just have to try it. Annoyingly moreish. But be aware, one serving is enough for about 8 people. This place is BYO, and I didn't notice any corkage charge. Nice one.
The best child-friendly & family restaurant around. We eat here at least once a month. Service is quick, staff is very good, food is typical Italian food of good quality & servings. There is an enclosed games room at the back of the restaurant for the kids to play in, this allows time for the adults to have a little chat without the kids.
If you go here make sure it's a thursday, friday or saturday otherwise you'll be disappointed. The good chefs/pizza makers work that night and are on song constantly. The food is authentic and FRESH!
The place is huge and open generally full of families so be prepared for a loud night. Desserts are not the greatest just simple stuff from a wholesaler and some simple home made stuff like mascarpone but then again I don't go here for dessert.
Pizzas..Well what can I say but yummo! woodfired (one of few that still uses wood rather than gas in the backend) admittedly it is gas assisted but they still use wood to burn.
