Came here on the Queen's B'day weekend on a sunday night. The restaurant was busy and we got a table for 9 in their enclosed 'courtyard' area, very cosy. The service was very good all evening and the entree's/breads were excellent. There was a bit of a wait for pizza mains, the rocket salad came a while beforehand, but this was the only real downside. Was a bit pricey but for Balmain, all up, it was good value. Recommend.
This is a great place to go an grab a casual meal. The pizza is good and there is enough choice to keep everyone happy. I tried something from the menu during our last visit, I was surprised how good it was. Very few places serving pizza also do a good job at a la carte. Would recommend getting in early because sometimes it can get full on the weekends.
The atmosphere at this place is great, brick walls with lots of kitsch and plenty to look at. The servers are all authentic italians and really look after you. We went for a birthday and brought a cake, but when we asked for plates the host asked us for the cake. They turned off all the lights and fans and put candles in the cake and sang happy birthday. It was excellent service!
The chilli pizza entree is delicious. I wanted to order another one! I shared the salmon pasta and gnocchi, both were beautiful. The service and food were good value, we will definitely be going back.
The hospitality and ambience is great. They make you feel very welcome. Basically it's the sort of place where you go, and some days the service is really quick, and some days slow, just drink your wine and enjoy it.
The pizzas are great, try the il casale! Their rocket and pear salad is also delicious, yes you could make it at home cheaper, but it's always made a little differently each time I order it and I love the variety. The house reds are quite good.
Not always, but most of the time, bruschetta is served before your meal and is complimentary, and if you know your olive oil, it's always very good quality. The spatchcock takes about 25 minutes, but is definitely worth the wait. And, if you're on a date, they'll make you a heart shaped chocolate pizza!
I’ve been here a number of times but, unfortunately, it just got worse every time. The pizza and mussels were my favourite but after the last time, I won't be back, pizza was oily and the mussel sauce was mostly water. A shame, I really enjoyed it the first few times.
Nice pizza's but I was informed by my friends who have been frequent diners there that it wasn't as good as it once was. The base of the pizza's though nice and thin, were not crispy and a little doughy. They were, however, light and tasty. Afterwards we ordered coffee and I was overheard saying my latte wasn't very good so we were very kindly not charged for it.
Don't bother asking for gelato it turned out to be watery ice cream, odd for an italian restaurant. Those who did order the desserts off of the blackboard were not disappointed. Pricey but it is balmain I guess.
I've only been here with large groups of people before, but on these occasions I must say I was a bit disappointed with value for money. Perhaps, I'd have a better experience with a smaller group.
For $42, the banquet consisted of a piece of garlic bread each, 2 antipasto plates for the table (which equated to about 3 items of anitpasto per person), a vegetarian pasta platter and 2 very basic and soggy pizza's per table. I was still hungry when I left, and the majority of my group were quite disappointed. The upside was the service which was friendly and the senior staff quite flirtatious and vibrant, as all good Italian restaurant senior staff should be!
As I said above, perhaps, in a smaller group you'd get better value for money. I'd be willing to give them another go.
