I strongly reccommend their spinach and ricotta crepe.. I can't do a decent review cos that's the only dish I remember, but I have had it at least 10 times in the last 2 years, it's that good!
If I could give negative points to this place I would, for ruining my night out. Oh my god it's a crime that this place is still operating. I came here last year and had the worst Sydney restaurant experience in here of my life. I wince every time I drive past here. Every time I watch Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares I think of this place.
The bruschetta was a toast with cheese and tomato on it. When that arrived we should have bolted out the door. The main was a cold grey cardboard parmigiana and the duck was truly disgusting. My partner and I, revolted, couldn't finish even half of our dinner and left the restaurant. If the food had been even half decent then I would not be so harsh on this restaurant. But everything was terrible. And I'm pretty sure this is not a coincidence or a once-off.
I love Italian cooking, my partner is Italian and we eat it all the time. This restaurant is not authentic and DeRossi's comments before are 100% correct. What kind of reviewer would give all 10s to this place? You do the math.
With true family atmosphere, and fun and happy staff working I found this Italian Restaurant superb! On the night we went, there were some rude customers complaining about a short wait who actually had to be asked to leave, but once gone the waitresses laughed it off and kept making sure all customers were satisfied.
The food was incredible, portions great, price simple, desserts remarkable and service great! Definitely be visiting again!
The risotto was ok but lukewarm, rather than hot. I had a slice of tiramisu for takeaway & it cost a few dollars less. The tiramisu was delicious. The glasses on the table didn't look clean & the walls looked faded & chipped. Service was fine!
We had an engagement party at IL Bolognese Function Centre on Saturday night, I just want to congratulate Chelso and his fine team of staff for perfect service, friendly assistance and impecable food. Everyone enjoyed their night and atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant and Function Centre to anyone who is looking for a great night out. AAA rating for me.
Il Bolognese is a great place for a casual meal in a nice relaxed setting. While there are some good and bad dishes (for example, don't try the veal). Overall the place is great with a genuine and authentic feel.
If you are after hearty Italian food that doesn't skimp on the portion sizes then this is the place for you. Whilst to some the place may look a bit pokey I would liken it to a very good Vietnamese noodle place: what it lacks in the visual appeal is more than made up with the cuisine on offer.
For instance, the bacon in the penne amatraciana was not rasher bacon out of a packet but roughly cubed pieces of bacon. To me, this gave a more wholesome and homemade feeling in the dishes that we ate. Their pizzas and desserts are also of a high calibre (of particular note is the budino which is like a creme caramel) - quite delicious. I'd recommend going on a Monday or Tuesday night if you don't have a booking to avoid disappointment.
This was the worst dining experience I had so far in Sydney. Food was terrible and service was very bad. They have no idea what Italian food is like. They don't even know how to serve, present or even pronounce a simple "bruschetta".
