Went to Il Baretto last friday night. Takes no reservations, so we put out name down and took some chairs outside and started on our wine. They said it would take 45 minutes but within 20 minutes our table was ready.

We had bruschetta, rocket and parmesan salad, duck ragu and Lasagne. Everything was amazing! The serving sizes were Huge! We could have done without all the extras. My partner didn't even finish the duck ragu.

I will be back, and will probably just stick with the lasagne as it was Perfect!

I am a lover of good Italian food and have been dining at il Baretto for years. It's a compact little place, and a great neighbourhood restaurant. Its popularity might mean u have to wait or spend some time enjoying a glass or two in the wine bar down the road but that's cool. It's their no fuss approach to serving honest Italian food that has me returning. Its not cheap but not priced too high. If there was one criticism it would be that the food can be inconsistent.

A great place for lunch. The owners are charming and delightful. Good food at good value.

After reading the reviews on eatability yesterday I decided it would be a great place for lunch and especially to try the house specialty, Duck Ragu Pappeddelle. What a mistake! They must have a different chef on Saturday lunches or else they were running out of the duck ragu and thinned it with chicken stock and oil.

The dish arrived with a couple of tough strips of duck (not pull apart as it should in a ragu) atop some decent pasta but swimming in what appeared to be orangey thin soup. Absolutely no flavour but after waiting so long as the service was appalling it was hesitantly eaten.

$26 is expensive for a disappointing dish. We also tried the lasagne (not rocket science) and the gnocci (nice pasta) bland tomato sauce. Don't bother with semifreddo - defrosted tasteless icecream!

Always come here for a quick meal and always order the ragu. Great value for money and always something new to try for an entree or even a desert (but I never venture away from the ragu for a main!). Would never go on a Friday or Saturday night however.

Delicious Italian food. I love the duck ragu. A great value lunch-you can book for lunch, with BYO and wine list. Had a fun birthday lunch here-you are allowed to book for lunch just not dinner, and was allowed to serve the cupcakes I had bought in. This place never disappoints-I love it.

Three things put me off this place at the outset, they don't take cards, they don't take bookings, and they don't provide wine glasses, $2 per person corkage to drink your BYO wine out of tumblers.

The place is fresh and clean looking and bright but decor is spartan and there is no outward aspect from most tables, only walls and other diners to look at. The space is small and tables are crowded together.

The serve of bread that came before the meal was minute. For the main meal I had polenta spicy sausage ($17). The sausage was smothered in a nondescript tomato sauce that could have come from a can. I couldn't taste the sausage and it certainly wasn't spicy. The serve was a reasonable size.

The place was popular, full up by 7 pm on a Tuesday. Service was fine, although we had to ask for water twice. But for mine, basically cafe standard food and ambience at restaurant prices.

I love Il Baretto. It's my favourite italian eatery in Sydney. Where else can you find non pretentious, affordable and traditional roman style food? You can't. $14 for a huge bowl of Amazing pasta. I love it! The service is great for a place that's so busy. It's not the kind of place to hang around for 2 hours after you finish your meal. Just like new york you eat, pay and get out! 10/10!

Had duck ragu. Nice enough but totally overated. Pushy waitstaff doing the suggestive sell of extras (did I ask for fries) Slightly stuffy atmosphere. Don't see what all the fuss is about really.

The food was good but could never justify the poor treatment by senior staff and staff. Quite frankly, the way they treat their customers is unacceptable. Thankfully I can choose to never go back and I won't nor will anyone else in our party.
