Original review, Dec 2007: We went here recently for a quick snack at 5:30pm (no people!) on a weekday. Ambience - nice, brown, candles on tables. Food - pizzas were yummy but fairly ordinary, I'm sure I've had better.
Gelatos - on the expensive side ($7.90) so my friend and I shared an "Innocence" (I think?) which had Vanilla Bean ice cream + Kahlua and a couple more flavours. After sharing 1 pizza and 1 dessert, I concluded that I would only drop by here if I wasn't able to go to Leichhardt for pizza. Service - perfunctory (you pay at the counter), but they are quite good about giving you water and bring your pizzas.
Updated review, July 2008: Had much the same experience as my last visit 8 months ago. The gelatos/sundaes are now $8.50! I suppose we can blame inflation for that. Our meal was a good deal with the entertainment book voucher (25% off), staff honoured the voucher quite cheerfully.
I absolutely adore this place and regularly make it my haunt of choice when organising celebrations. I recently had my birthday dinner here and thirteen of us ploughed our way through a shedload of the most delicious pizzas and a fair stack of entrees - only to be hit for $20 a head at the end (including corkage). Fantastic value.
We shared the pizzas but I tried the "Tassie" pizza for the first time - smoked salmon/shallots etc - and fell in love. I never would have expected salmon to work on pizza, but these guys certainly make it work! Every other pizza they churn out is equally as delicious - the Queenslander (garlic prawns), the Surf and Turf (beef and prawns) and the tandoori chicken ones are just some of my faves. I'm addicted to their roma tomato and bocconcini salad and tried their pesto bread this time - another delicious menu item.
They were quick to bring out the food, but had to wait a little while to get the bill. No real dramas though. I'm so glad I don't actually live in Newtown - I'd be a total blimp from eating pizzas from this place all the time!
I've eaten here dozens of times since they first opened and they are fantastic. Their pizzas are fresh and crispy, and their gelato is mouth watering. Go to the vanilla bean. My only complaint is I can't fit in everything I want to. Oh, and the owner/manager guy is gorgeous. That's always nice!
Always a good place for a meal. The pizzas are quite modern in flavours and the gelati is amazing. The strawberry and balsamic is a favourite. The desserts are massive, almost a meal in themselves.
I go here regularly and every time has been great. I really like the pizza. I usually have the spinach or vegetarian one. I actually like that they have the very thin base. They're absolutely delicious and very tasty. The coffee and gelato are good too and I've always had good service. They're always polite and efficient. The courtyard out the back is great, especially on a nice night.
This is the best pizza place in Sydney. The pizza's have rich and various toppings and the crusts are light and fluffy. The perfect combination! I love this place. I go here at least once a week and have recommended it to everyone and after you go there once, you will surely come back. The perfect Pizza! Nice ambience, although service could use some improvements (on the slow side).
Great pizzas and gelatos. I was there with friends last night and can only rave of the quality and taste of the pizzas. We had a selection of pizzas and a pumkin pasta. My favourite was the Pizza Salsiccia?! with Italian sausages and potatoes. As dessert we had gelato (the chocolate is fantastic) and waffels.
After eating at Ice and Slice a few times over the years, the last time I went was absolutely disappointing. The service was useless, between 10 of us we only got 6 menus and we were constantly having to flag down a waiter to take our requests. Food was average and not very hot. Overall nothing to rave out - very disappointing.
Even though prices have gone up, still my favourite gelato place! so mouth-watering and irresistible. Soon I will try the pizza's but actually havn't eaten a meal there yet because there are so many great restaurants in the area.
