We've had the Beef Fillet Steak and it is always superb here. I had been recommended it by a friend and it did not disappoint. We find the service friendly and the pricing fair. The Fresh Roasted Coffee they use is very tasty. I take some home every time we go. Will definitely go back.

This place was so disappointing. We went there for breakfast and I asked for a spanish omelette without bacon. After five minutes the waitress came back with a menu and said sorry we cant do it without the bacon. Without thinking, I said I would have it anyway. Big mistake. It came out like rubber, overcooked and tasteless. Now I know why they couldnt do it without bacon, it was either defrosted or had been reheated. How hard is it to make a fresh omelette?

Great location, ambience and decor, poor service and average, overpriced food. The bill has been added incorrectly (over-charged) both times I've been there. To add insult to injury, they illegally charge a weekend/ holiday surcharge still, despite being told by several customers that it is illegal. The staff can't get your order straight but will argue blue in the face about why the surcharge is not illegal.

Took a few females to the Phsychic Monday night. The evening was fun and the speaker was good, but for the 35 per head meal deal, - 1 main and a glass of wine. Most of the 35 must have been for the speaker , because the food - (we all had their duck rissotto) was well below average. Tasted like it was left overs that had been in the fridge a few days. Nice little cafe atmosphere and Avalon itself is fabulous, its a shame for such a foody area the focus on food quality at this little place falls so short. Best for breakfast than dinner.

Visited this place for the first time a few weeks ago with my partner, sat down and the waitress came over with menus and took our drink order. 15 minutes later, still no drinks and no food order taken. Slightly confused as to what was going on because it wasn't very busy. A couple of customers who came in after us got their drinks straight away and the girl who appeared to be in charge of making the drinks just stood chatting away with these customers.

After nearly 30 minutes of no service and no drinks, my partner asked if our drinks were being made and the reply was yeah they are being done, clearly they were not and he asked the girl two more times before she went and asked the girl who was chatting away to the customers about the drinks and then we finally got the answer we were looking for, they had not been started so we cancelled the order and left.

What a waste of 30 minutes! I'm all for relaxed and laid back dining, but thats taking it too far, especially when my partner was only on an hour lunch break from work! Bad bad service, would never go back there again!

We had breakfast there this weekend. They were very quick to take a drinks order, but slow to take the main order. The breakast menu is rather limited, compared to the nicer lunch menu. My open sandwich was tasty, but a bit on the small side for the price. Good coffee and babychinos! Add them to the large list of Sydney restaurants who still (illegally) apply a Sunday surcharge.

Had dinner here with family on Sat night, the place looked lovely with the big open fire. Our food was standard cafe fare, very enjoyable. The staff were friendly but everything had to be asked for several times. The bill came and what I thought was outrageous was the corkage fee of $10.50 for 1 bottle of wine! We would go back but will not be doing byo again!

It is a nice little spot, great for a quiet friday or saturday night dinner with friendly staff but, honestly, the food is uneven at best (scallops were beautiful, prawns were absolutely horrible) and servings are way too small and way too expensive for cafe food. They do make tasty drinks and desserts though but not enough to get me back.

Been here many times, service is always extremely slow. Had breakfast new years day and found fried cockroach in my chips!! Staff reacted well but only offered to pay for one free meal. Will never go back.

Visted for Sunday lunch and ordered a 'standard' Caeser salad for entree, I then had the vegetarian nachos and my husband had the 'big' breakfast and a banana smoothie. Salad and smoothie great, nachos - pretty good, big breakfast - horrible. The bacon wasn't cooked, the sausage was shrivelled up. All this for $57, so not the best value for average fare.

The service was very 'perky' and friendly but didn't deliver, we had to ask for: menus, water (twice), where our order was as we watched the people who came well after us being served. Although it's in our area, I probably wouldn't return.
