The Huntsbury Hotel is my local pub and since I've been going there (2008) it has changed alot but for the good obviously. The pub does well for it's locality, and the locals are friendly people. Would probably recommend coming up thursdays, fridays and saturdays. The food is good, not absolutely fantastic but it's worth what they charge.

Update: So since I've done the earlier review I will say the Huntsbury Hotel has gone down hill. The publican has got on the wrong side of nearly everybody in the pub, the bistro has changed hands about 5-6 times and the food is pretty ordinary, and if you ask for no gravy they always give you gravy.

The list of what the huntsbury hotel has taken away.

No Cheese and Biscuits. No more giddy up. No Sausage Sizzle (Promised). No more freedom of speech. No more noise (Even if your cheering on your team). No more poker, trivia or bands. No more board or punters club. No more box draw for losing tickets. Removal and barring of locals who have been there for years and keep the pub alive.

What next? No Tab!. Then What? No pub!.

Great pub food at excellent prices. Has all your staples like steak, pastas and pies, but also had an excellent beef casserole when we went, for the bargain price of $10, which included a drink voucher. The crowd is an odd mix of locals but the staff are friendly and the venue is big enough to accommodate just about everyone!

Myself and two others popped into The Huntsbury last Sunday for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. While the interior is dominated by pool tables and pokies, the beer garden out back is brilliant and I could imagine spending many a lazy evening there downing a few of the local brews.

The kitchen is open to the bistro area exposing its small simplicity and appears to be run by a middle aged couple. The lady running the register was super friendly.

We all ordered chicken schnitzel (myself a parmagiana), with chips and salad. It didn't take long for them to come out to the table, nor did it take long for us to devour them. The servings were generous (especially for the price), salad was lively and chips thick and crunchy. I was told the kitchen had run out of eggplant for the parmagiana, so they'd taken the initiative of replacing it with bacon, which from me scored big brownie points!

The rest of the menu seemed like your typical, comforting pub fare ranging from spaghetti bolognaise to t-bone steaks (which by the way looked massive!), and with prices starting at about $6 its hard to go wrong.

A round of drinks came in at around $10 and there were no problems accessing the bar. All in all a good pub lunch experience and easily the superior of nearby venues The Newington and The White Cockatoo.

Popped in to my old local for a quick drink and to see if time had improved the place. Turns out it did! Like a lot of Sydney-siders my tastes have turned away from Thai food over the last couple years to the more subtle Vietnamese. The bistro at the Huntsbury may well have started the pendulum swinging back the other way, a fantastic green curry and I've not had better Tom Yum, period. A great place on a Wednesday night for food, drinks and jazz and a nice quiet boozer to disappear into on any other day of the week.

If you enjoy sipping a drink and listening to quality music (jazz of course) then this place is worth a serious visit on Thursday evening or Sunday afternoon. Apart from the quality of the jazz, the food is good value, the drinks are at sensible prices and the locals are friendly. At last a respectable place to enjoy quality jazz in the inner west.

Go on Saturday night, you get two main meals for the price of one! - but go early, place is packed due to this offer and the trivia that follows. Food is good, honest pub food, healthy serves. Fed four for $42.

It is what it is. A locals pub, the beer is cheap and the food is brilliant for what you pay ($6 tasty, good quality, big portions of steaks with chips and salad - just the thing on a Wednesday night!). You don't go there for class or anything flash, but you go there for a cold beer, great value pub food and the footy is always on. It's the place to watch origin. Fair.
