You know when someone says "You gotta try this restaurant "well, House of Chow is so overpriced. I don't know why they charge so much, the atmosphere is casual and the service was okay.

The food is good - but on par with most with other Chinese restaurants. The fried rice was one size only and it was served in the thermos that steamed rice is normally served in. We paid $117 for 2 x mains, 1 x fried rice, 1 x combo short soup and two soft drinks. Its really not justifiable. Note to self. Do not return.

We were recommended to go to this restaurant a number of years ago and have been going ever since. It is a quality suburban chinese restaurant and there is no need to travel into the city to get 'the best' chinese food. The quality of the food is first class, fresh and plentiful. The scallops in soy, ginger and shallots (when available) is second to none and the salt and pepper squid is better than the Golden Century's. Annie and David are wonderful hosts and make everyone feel welcome.

Slightly pricey Chinese, but the quality and taste is above average compared to a cheap Chinese joint. The service is prompt, attentive and friendly and I will surely be returning.

We went here on Saturday night after reading all the positive reviews on this website. I have to say that the service is great. The staff were very attentive and the hot towels and chocolates at the end of the evening are a nice touch. The food is good but I can't honestly say that it is the best Chinese I have ever had. Yes, it is better than some of the Chinese places out there but it isn't extraordinary.

I do have to agree that the decor needs a major update. I don't know what era it is but is certainly very green in there!

This is the best chinese in Sydney the hosts are very attentive. The prices are expensive but the quality of the food is fresh as fresh. Would highly recommend the honey prawns and sweet and sour soup for entree!

Went today for Sunday lunch with my husband after reading positive reviews. Was a very good experience.

Food was great, had assorted appetizers (spring rolls are fantastic, crab claw was nice but expensive) 3 mains (honey prawns were a little disappointing but still above average, mongolian lamb was some of the best we have ever had and the sizzling bbq chicken was nice but a little boring) and fried rice (I really liked the fact it was served in a steamed rice style warmer as the rice remained warm throughout our meal) which was great.

I would branch out and try different dishes instead of the prawns and chicken on a return visit. Service was very attentive and our glasses were never empty, both wine and water. Staff were friendly and helpful. The ambience is very dated but who really cares when the food is good.

Now as to price, it is expensive for a suburban chinese but you do always get what you pay for. Lunch came to $159 plus tip but we did also leave with enough leftovers for another meal for 2 to 3 people. Dishes are around $25 each ($30+ for seafood) but they are also quite big servings so would be ideal for 4 to 6 people to share 3 to 5 dishes.

Your average local cheap and cheerful chinese would be charging around $12 ($16 for seafood) but the quality and quantity of ingredients would be lower too. Entrees are on the expensive side but are also of very high quality and clearly use fresh ingredients.

Not affordable for an every day option but lovely when you want to splash out a little on good chinese food. Will return.

Brilliant food, we can't find Chinese that tastes this authentic anywhere else in Sydney. Great service!! For a husband and wife team, service is excellent and you never feel like you're waiting. Better service than some restaurants with 10 staff! Back to the food - excellent, delicious, authentic. What more can I say, but if I could eat there 7 nights a week I would, unfortunately they are closed on Mondays....(I go hungry on that night).

We have been eating at this restaurant for 8 years and we just keep going back. Family atmosphere, good friendly service in a convenient location with ample parking. See for yourself.

I must admit the food here is good chinese, but the rest is awful. Staff are rude and not interested in you except when you have to pay the bill, ambience is terrible order takeaway if you must.
