I got to say that I have always heard good things about the Red Room. But I went there on Saturday night, lined up for a hour and a half before being told that the club was full and if we wanted to stay and wait it would be a very, very long time before anyone gets in!! And I arrived at 9.45pm, not impressed at all!
I've been to Red Room the past two Saturday nights, and I must admit on both occassion I had an awesome time. My girlfriend had her b'day there, and we had a section dedicated for us with a small bar tab. Great music; so hard to find good R&B clubs that play a lot of ol' skool music. Great mixture of crowd. Definitely recommend for anyone for a great night of dancing!
My friends and I go to Red Room all the time!! I'm 26 and I hate going to normal RnB venues where guys are disrespectful and Redroom has a more mature crowd with music we grew up to and love. The DJ's are the best in Sydney and the ambience of the place is truly worth the (very cheap $10) entry fee!! Recommend it to all who love old skool and a night with no fights or trouble! You'll be singing "I wanna dance with somebody" on the top of your lungs and loving it!!
UPDATE NOV 06: REDROOM entry fee has gone up to $15- but i don't think anyone minds paying! All other clubs in the area cost at least $20..
The NEW REDROOM VIP LOUNGE is awesome also.. SLightly different vibe, the old skool rnb is more FUNK n MOTOWN based in that room, but the atmosphere is still HOUSE PARTY with GREAT PEOPLE and the BEST DJs in SYDNEY FOR SURE!... So glad we can now party till 4am @ REDROOM thanks to the new VIP Lounge! And there's still nowhere else to hear the real classics!! RECOMMEND THESE 2 ROOMS 100%!
Redroom at Hotel Chambers is fantastic. I love the older crowd (and by that I mean no giggly 18-year-olds )!! The club tunes are great and there's more than a few that I can sing to at the top of my lungs! I love the sexy-red decor too!
Update: 3/11/06 - I've since been back and the music is better than ever! I love this club. One down side is that its growing popularity meant (1) covercharge went up to $15 (2) the door policy is too strict now for guys with a few of my friends not able to get in with the wrong shoes - real bummer!!!
Not sure what those comments about being out of place if ur anglo-saxon was all about - coz every time I go I've found a great mixed crowd.
Went a few weeks ago based on some of the more positive reviews here. Cover charge (on a Saturday) is now $15. Smug bouncers made us wait a long time to get in, but when we finally did it was only a third full!
The music was terrible: I'm all for old school, but how about some songs that could actually be danced to, or that anyone had actually heard of? And the smell of the place was every bit as dreadful as I had been warned of.
The only thing worse than the music was the crowd. All ages but very low class, and I'm not sure how best to put this without offending anyone, but if you are anglosaxon, you may find yourself a little out of place! (And I say that as someone with a mediterranean background)!
Despite the cover charge we stayed only 15 minutes. Please, please, please don't waste your time or money coming here.

I went here for the 1st time and all I can say is... Red Room is the best R&B Clubbing experience I've ever had!! This place makes every other R&B club in Sydney a total joke! If you appreciate true R&B (Rhythm and Blues) this is the place for you.. non stop great tracks and great crowd, playing the best of the best ol skool track from BBD, Bobby Brown, SWV, Jon B, Montell Jordan, Blackstreet etc. For a great night gather a good group friends and head down to the Red Room.
I love the Red Room especially when DJ Mac from 96.1 and DJ D-BO plays!! The music is pure old school (think Boyz II Men 'Motown Philly', Jade 'I wanna love you', Johnny Gill 'the floor') and all the other RnB hits from the late 80's to early 90's with a little bit of disco. A mature crowd with one thing in common 'fantastic music and a chance to sing your lungs out and dance the night away'. I love this place!! Drinks are city prices and expect queues...unless you are early.
I've been to Red Room a couple of times but the particular time that stood out for me most was the first. The first time, there was no queue and we got straight in. Only getting to the back behind where the DJ was set, it got extremely hot and the amount of people smoking, the air was absolutely unbreathable. The first time, also yes, the bar smelled somewhat like vomit. Not very nice.
Second time, the queue was very long and I was having a bit of a get together with some mates and half of them left because they had to wait too long. What bothered us most was that the bouncer kept saying that the club was full and they had to wait for people to empty out but when I stepped in there with 3 other people, it was only about a quarter full. I have to admit also, the cocktails are very overpriced. And some of the barmaids don't know how to even make some of the cocktails that are on the list.
But what I love about the place is the music and the people. I haven't found a place that compares to the great music. It's not often you can find DJ's who play the real old school music. I remember getting Jodeci played possibly 4 times in one night ! That's a record for me ! Some DJ's don't even have Jodeci. Props to the DJs, you make it happen for me every weekend.
