A newish Mexican restaurant "Rider" is upstairs. Our table of 6 waiting 45 minutes for burrito style meals and the place wasn't packed. My beef burrito had two small pieces of meat inside. Go around the corner for late night Vietnamese or get a pie from the bar downstairs!
I always go here to see bands but I am often tempted upstairs to the restaurant as well! The food is great; menu diverse and the food really tasty, and so cheap - really good value. You can get a really tasty chicken stir-fry for $8, and the $6 nachos are THE BEST in town. I love the fish dishes. It's nice that you can stil hear the music upstairs, without being assualted by it. Nice pub, reasonablyly priced drinks, friendly, helpful staff. This is just around the corner from my house and I am SO glad. Also - the Hopetoun is now smoke-free! Makes for a much more pleasant evening . . .
Absolutely love the Hoey. The intimate size lets you get right up close to great live music and have always found the crowds friendly. Highlight was seeing You am I and Dallas Crane play a 'secret' gig as Strange Fruit and The Beige Strangers. Pure Gold.
Great music!! Nice to go to a pub and not have pokies in your face all the time. Excellent small live music venue - Hey that's why you go! Bar has good selection although it is tough to get to went the music and the punters are pumping!
