Food 3 Ambience 2 Service 1 Value 1
Don’t bother coming to this poor excuse of a restaurant. Although the menu is extensive and the portions are relatively generous, the quality is lacking and the service is abysmal. For Chinese places like these, I am fairly accustomed to generally unfriendly service which is still quick and consistent nonetheless. This place however, was a complete failure on all accounts.
Walking into the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the completely illogical table layout. My boyfriend and I practically had to climb over the other diners to get to our seats. After ordering a chow kway teow and a seafood flat rice noodle, we were waiting at least 25-30 minutes for our food which, for low end places like this, is just ridiculous- especially when the second dish comes about 15 minutes after the first.
The seafood noodle dish was almost tasteless while the noodles themselves were undercooked and clumped together with an unpleasant rubbery texture. The chow kway teow is described on the menu and having ‘prawns and shredded pork’. Don’t be fooled! The ‘shredded pork’ resembled the type of shredded ham you get on frozen pizzas, and the 4-5 school prawns hidden amongst the noodles were tiny and totally flavourless. Everything was thickly coated in a bland curry powder, giving the whole dish a vile grainy texture.
About ¾ of the way through our meal, a waitress tells us we need to move tables to make room for a group that had just arrived. Although unimpressed, I oblige, holding my own food and tea, and forcing my way past chairs and tables while she stands and watches, offering no help whatsoever. We were waved towards a table that had been moved so we were sitting in the middle of the walkway, and the newly arrived group of customers were squashed and left to stand around us, watching us awkwardly eat while our old table was cleaned.
Generally, I’m fairly easily satisfied when I go out to eat but this place and the overall experience was an absolute disaster. At about $13-$19 a dish, you’re far better off spending your money elsewhere.

Unfortunately, Hong's has not learnt how to service customers, particularly if you only speak English. Our last visit will be our last, and I really regret this because the food has been great.
This was the first time I had a Chinese meal that was not served with rice, despite two requests after the initial order. When they first opened the senior staff was friendly and open about what he wanted to provide, now he hides out the back and will never be available to take a phone call. I should have refused to pay the bill.
