This place is great for a pre movie or theatre dinner!

I'm surprised there are not more reviews. This is very good Japanese food in a no nonsense restaurant that is even BYO ($3 per person, not bad considering most places in the Circular Quay charge $50 for a bottle of Oyster Bay).

I highly recommend the miso soup! (one of the best I've ever had), The fried gyoza dumplings and the Katsu mild curry. My husband loved his sushi and sahimi beno box. All up we paid $56 for a filling meal for two with our own wine.

We'll be back. If they wanted to improve the restaurant, they might change the 1970's carpet or have white tablecloths for added elegance.

Ate here with a girlfriend last Saturday night, the restaurant was fairly quiet with only three other tables occupied. We shared a vegetable tempura between the two of us, the batter was crisp and lightly battered, delicious. I then ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Bento box, I’ve eaten a few of these and this was in the top three.

The salmon was cooked and flavoured perfectly. The tofu was also very appetizing. My friend ordered the Wagyu Takiniku BBQ bento box, she was also very happy with her choice of main. The miso soups were also of good quality. The servings were all good proportions. We left feeling satisfied. The wait staff were attentive and genuinely friendly. My only grip is that the restaurant is only open until 9:30 pm, I think it should be open till at least 10:30 pm as we felt slightly rushed during our dinner.

Me and my partner gave this restaurant a try, as it is part of the Menya chain, which we've had good experience with.

We were going to a sugar hit and only ordered 2 sides and one main. The seafood dumpling came out steamed, instead of fried as expected. However, it tasted fresh. The dough broke a bit too easily though. Will try the fried dumplings next time. The other entree was a seaweed salad. Very generous serving and delicious dressing.

Finally the stirfried udon named 'Hokkaido'. The udon was cooked well, not too soft or chewy. Good texture. It came with fish tempura, also cooked well. The dough was light and thin, yet crunchy. The fish was not overcooked.

Overall, an enjoyable experience, with friendly waitresses who were attentive. There is always one around to pour you more water if you wanted. Will be back.
