I always go to hilltop phoenix for yumcha. The food is good, prices are very decent and the atmosphere is cozy, but the service is quite poor with the manager who wouldn't even return my "thank you" and "bye" with more than a blank stare.

The service of this place is awful. The waitress' are hardly ever smile.
Yesterday lunch time, when my wife asked about the food she was about to order, the waitress was so rude and almost abusive. It was too much to bear that the whole family had to leave without the lunch.
We will never go to Hilltop Phoenix again.

Hilltop Phoenix is our local yum cha joint and we've been regular customers over the years. The food is always good, it's food value for money and the service is always up to scratch. We've yet to experience a bad meal there and for reason alone it's hard not to recommend.

I am generally a fan of Yum Cha as I am of Asian decent and have experienced many Yum Cha venues, several of them overseas. I have to say, Hilltop Phoenix is definitely one of the worst Yum Cha venues to attend. The food is way below average to meet the standards that you would generally expect from a Yum Cha.
The value for the horrid food is highly overpriced, ambience is generally non-existent and the staff rushes your table throughout the meal, especially through closing time, on top of that they pretty much push leftovers at your face simply demanding you to order it.
I understand my review may sound harsh but I have attended this venue at least a dozen times so I am adamant with my judgement, I will not be coming back here again even though I live 5 minutes away.

My family go here all the time. The reason is because it's fantastic! Anyone who has said there is nothing special about the menu didn't read carefully. The Wasabi Beef is the hero dish. It is delicious, tender and topped with walnuts which when you crunch into, your mouth fills with the wonderful sweet sauce with the Wasabi giving it a real kick.
Although pricey, you pay for premium quality cuts of meat and cooking techniques. The pork rib in xo sauce is so mouth wateringly tender, and the soft shell crab is divine.
Yum cha is good but the Phoenix really comes into it's own as an a la carte restaurant. We have had nothing but friendly staff, who have even given us free fresh egg custard tarts at the end of our meals. The Peking duck is amazing and the knife skills of the carvers are great.
If you are having trouble with queues, try and get there for a mid week dinner. Last few times, we went on a Friday night, and have been seated straight away.

What a let down for Yum Cha. Long queues, and selective service. Pretty pretentious place and rude staff. Management should up their game as this place has been like this for years. Much prefer Jin Yan Chinese Restaurant for Yum Cha at Castle Hill RSL for better food, value and service.

I love yum cha, however this place is a massive disappointment! Food was cold and dumplings were watery, Staff were very rude. I will never go back to this restaurant, big let down.

I have never written a review before but felt I had too. Being a lover of good Yum Cha on a Sunday we decided to try Hilltop Phoenix this morning. The wait was long and I thought because there was such a cue it was a sign of good things to come. While waiting I did happen to notice the rules of the Yum cha... much like the soup nazi on Seinfield this place seemed to have the same thing going on.
1) groups under 5 limit of 60 mins
2) group over 5 get an extra 1/2 hour woot woot
3) no takeaways of dishes on Sundays
4) beware make sure you alert staff if you have prams
there were more rules but I lost interest and started watching the tables next to the cue get there deliveries of dumplings and dim sims.
I then got seated at one of these tables that span the width of the front of the restaurant and went from one of the voyeurs to feeling like a animal in the zoo while all the other hungry animals watched me eat. Not cool.
The food service was fairly quick which was the only positive thing I can say. We tried the usual Yum Cha fair, dim sims, dumplings, bbq pork, calamari and green vege. All disspointing and cold. The caramari deserves special mention as it was oily and chewy, just terrible.
For our trouble we paid double what we would normally at the Castle Hill RSL yum cha or in the city. Rant over but it was really that bad.

The most expensive Yum Cha I have ever been to. I once went here with a friend and the bill came to double what we would usually pay if we had gone to any other Yum Cha establishment in Sydney. Service is also atrocious.
