Terrible. Love the history and the ambience however the reality is dissapointing. We were 12 at a bucks and had had a few, yet the two who ordered the steaks found it tough as boot leather. The other meals were ok however when we complained we were told how the meat supplier has been the same for years and we must be mistaken. The lady who owns and manages the restaurant we found unhelpful, the staff seemed to be Irish backpakers and were lovely.

This is a pub not a restaurant but of course it does serve food!
I always go to the lord nelson but its always too busy! so I end up here and its a nice traditional pub (perhaps, the oldest in Sydney?!) average beer selection, ok service, good bands, overall good atmosphere bit expensive but that is the norm in the area. I did not try the food.

Beware! This place is probably fine for a drink but it's awful for a function. As soon as management realises your budget isn't as big as they'd like they hit you up for fees not originally mentioned. We had a firm cap on our bar tab for a function which we told the manager about and he agreed he'd tell us as soon as our cap had been reached. He didn't, he just ignored the cap and kept ringing drinks up to our tab. Of course they'd held our credit card and at the end of the night we were forced to pay the whole amount, even though they hadn't stuck to the agreement. We didn't sign or give a PIN but it's gone through anyway, essentially unauthorised. No end of argument would sway them. The licencee is a snake. Beware.

Be careful if booking the restaurant at the Hero of Waterloo. We booked a monday night (special occasion), the woman took the booking, then when we turned up on the night, the restaurant was closed. Apparently it doesn't open on Mondays, despite what their website says. The nice barman gave us the "ghost tour" anyway, it took one and a half minutes.

Great old pub at the Rocks, good for a drink, with reasonable pub food with a limited menu.

Met two friends who were going out of town for an early dinner. As my partner couldn't join us I called the restaurant & changed the booking to 3 people. When we got there we still had four seats & had to arrange the table ourselves as it was so close to the wall I could not even pull the chair out.
The menu was inexpensive but you get what you pay for. To our surprise they asked us to pay the bill before we got to eat anything. The waitress seemed embarassed to ask & I can't really blame her.
Apparently the burgers were simple but reasonable. I ordered the "Seafood Pasta" which consisted of spaggetti, a couple of tinned oysters, Napolatana sauce & one king prawn. Very bland.
I recommend for a nice quiet drink but not for the food. Bar service is quick but the restaurant portion needs a lot of work.

Vegetarian options are extremely limited. The meat eaters in the group seemed satisfied. It is good, hearty pub fare and the atmosphere is lovely. Staff are wonderful. If you want some peace and quiet then book a table upstairs - very civilised!

Great pub for a quiet drink except on St Paddys Day. Hidden secret of the rocks.
