I was a bit apprehensive going tonight as there was only one very good review and 'one not so good' review on this restaurant. What I can say is that it was certainly value for money $22 (for chicken) and $24 for (steak). The 5 courses which is really 3 courses with coffee and a small salad was certainly filling.
The desert was not really great as it was obvious it had been made earlier in the day and the custard has set so much it seemed like plastic. The main course was the highlight, good serving and great veggies. Definitely value for money but a reasonable but not an amazing meal. However, the service was second to none and this made it a good experience.
I observe the dinner service here and it was disappointing, it was pretentious and downright dismal. We ordered the scallops with tomato salsa, it came out on soup spoons with kiwifruit and quarts of strawberries? Nice...no. Ordered the 270g steaks and T-bone, later they came back and said they (grain fed angus beef) were not very good but the filet mignon was guaranteed great......Helllllo (alarm bells going!!!) but we still gave them the benefit of the doubt and reluctantly went along with it. Steaks that needed to be medium rare came out well done! What going on?
The sides, what looks like roast potatoes, are chewy and soggy, like the steaks. The char-grill veges came out very, very char grilled!. At this stage you would be asking yourself "Why not send it back?", very simple answer... we were hungry.
The mushroom sauce accompanying the steaks tasted like it came out of a packet. Disappointing keeps coming to mind. If they put the same passion in the kitchen as they did in the dining room then they might have a turn for the better. We had to go to another restaurant to finish up. Very disappointing.
I went there a couple of times and both times, the service is very attentive, food selection is good, I had the 5 course set menu, I reckon it's very good value for money. The chicken and cream corn soup is very yummy, it is definitely made to perfection! The grilled pork chop on rice dish is also to die for, not a single piece of fat attach to the pork chop (good for the health conscious). I will definitely recommend anyone to go there. The biggest bonus is that there's heaps of parking right next to the restaurant.
